what exercise have others found most helpful?  The only gym near my house has cario and weights.  No classes/pool.  The gym that does offer these is about 20 miles away and I'm pretty sure the inconvenience would keep me away.

Any suggestions?  I know there's always walking but I would like to intensifiy things a bit!

Thanks!

I mostly run/walk ----- it takes me about 25 minutes from my house to be on elliptical machine at the gym ---

So -- instead, I grab the dog and get out in the sunshine and spend 90 minutes doing a run/walk program (C25K is how I started --- never have graduated to full running due to tendonitis) to keep my heartrate going up and down

I can get twice as much time exercise time in 90 minutes this way -- and don't have to deal with traffic.

I listen to music or to books on my IPOD while I walk/run.

Cardio and weights are perfect!!

My routine varies.

Today I did the Interval setting on the elliptical (resistance of 10) and I increased the crossramp to 8 and 12.  I did this for 30 minutes, then went to lift weights.  I worked on my arms/back/shoulders and my abs.   When I was finished with my weights, I ran 2 miles on the treadmill.       My entire work out was 90 minutes, for a total of 1016 calories burned.

What I am doing for my workouts is I found something I can turn into a hobby.  I have been inspired by all of the people on the exercise forum and I have started to train for a 5K.  No easy feat for someone that can only run for 2-3 minutes before I need to walk again.  But I am in interval training and I hope to slowly build my way up to a mile and then another...  But I think that's the key, you need to find something that you will do forever.  Some people run, some bike ride, some swim.  There is a meditative quality to running.  I am all by myself with no distractions...I can just let my mind wander...it's a great stress reliever

I like working out to exercise DVD's. I like Billy Blank's Jr. Not the Tai Bo guy...his son. His exercise programs are fun and good for beginners.
