blood work post-op
I am just over two years post-op and have NEVER had any blood work done.
When I asked my family doctor for post-op blood work he told me that is the responsibility of my surgeon and when I asked my surgeon he said it is the responsibility of the family doc.
My family doctor is retiring at the end of the month and I am going to have a new family doc right out of medical school. I am planning on hitting him up for blood work the first week in May. I know I am going to ask for a CBC, Ferritin, TIBC and protein levels but for those who have post-op blood work done regularly, what does your doctor usually order?

Thank goodness you're getting a new PCP. Surely with your annual check up your PCP does blood work. No? Well, hopefully the new person will.
And I'd suggest you simply tell the new doctor that you've had lap band surgery and they should know what to test for. Because we don't have a malabsorption problem (usually), my doctor check the protein levels, the kidney functions (since too much protein will harm the kidneys), my potassium level and calcium levels.....she checks a lot of things. If the doctor orders a full blood workup, nothing will be missed. Just discuss it with the new doctor and hopefully they'll be in agreement to test yearly for certain number.

I get my bloodwork ordered by my PCP --- and I ask them to mail me a copy.
then, I read it over myself, call if I have questions and I make a copy for my bariatric surgeon and bring it to them to add to my chart.
In addition to a CBC, I get them to do Thyroid, Vit D, Calcium, Iron, Intact-PTH, Vit K, Ferritin
Vit D, Calcium, Intact-PTH are inter-related and I have a history of VIt D being too low and PTH being too high -------- so I follow up with those every 6 months
