How well do you tolerate different veggies? Raw vs. cooked?

Who would have thought I'd ever be mourning the loss of...vegetables???

Don't get me wrong...of course I can still eat veggies with my band (don't want to frighten any newbies or pre-op folks), and I do. But before my band I did Weight Watchers for a long, long time. I grew to really LOVE a variety of veggies. And I ate a lot of them. I mean, a LOT!

Now, I have a hard time with some of them...

Broccoli, brussel sprouts, asparagus, squash, carrots: I can tolerate, but only about 1/4 cup at a time.

Mushrooms, which are one of my favorites, are hard for me. I think it's because you can't really chew them to "mush" per se, because of their somewhat rubbery texture.

Raw veggies: I can't do raw tomatoes because of the skin. Carrots are ok if I chew REALLY well. Cucumber fills me up too quickly, so I can only have a few little pieces.

How about you? What can/can't you tolerate? Can you do raw veggies, or do they have to be cooked?

You can't go back and make a brand new start, but you can start from now and make a brand new end.

Hi Dawnmarie...I have trouble with some veggies too.  Surprisingly, raw carrots, broccoli and celery don't bother me, but cooked broccoli does!  Mushrooms can be a problem, but I find that if I cut them into tiny pieces, then they are fine.  I can eat green beans, corn, squash, yams, cucumbers, tomatoes, etc, but peas are the devil...the little skins get me stuck!  When people say their band is fickle, I think this is one of the reasons...there is no way to know without trying something, which food is going to be trouble.  I cannot eat asparagus at all...makes me sad.

I am only 3 weeks out so I can't speak to this, but I have been wondering about it. I don't like many veggies but I love cucumbers. I worry about the seeds???

Veggies are one of the easiest things for me to eat besides eggs.  Never had a problem with any.

i eat veggies w/every meal - if they aren't my meal itself.

no issues with any of them - i typically grill or roast mine, raw with only a few.

had roasted brussel sprouts / beet salad last night - have enough to do it again for lunch.

wont' know till you try :)

I don't have a problem with veggies, but I am very lucky, I don't seem to have problems with any foods.  The couple issues I have had were self induced because I wasn't paying attention and ate way too fast.

Veggies and many fruits are difficult for me if they have a peel or skin.  My band will reject the oddest things like blueberry skins, brussel sprouts, etc.

I eat baby carrots, green beans, celery (which is surprising to me), asparagus, the tops of broccoli and cauliflower.

Fruits- I can eat banana, berries if I'm careful, blueberries, (usually), and canned no-sugar added mandarin orances.  Apples and pears are o.k. sometimes if they are peeled.
