I was really excited about getting a fill...and then...

I am 8 weeks out and was ready for my first fill. I am down 30 lbs, and I can eat well, not getting sick and nothing is getting caught in my band. The doctor tells me he doesn't think I need a fill because "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

WHAT?! I thought for sure I would get the fill. I wanted that fill, but he told me not to let the band control me, I need to control the band! He said I am a perfect candidate for lapband because the average weightloss is 1-2 lbs a week, and I am at 3.5 lbs a week. So everything I said above about eating well, not getting sick and nothing getting caught seems to be working against me!... No, not really...I'm gonna work this band like no other! If I could do this well so far, there is no telling me I can't do this because I need a fill.

He released me to work out, and watch me dance!!! I am gonna do the DARN thing...and work it!

I'm pretty proud of myself...because although I needed help, it is ME that is working the band... I am gonna show the naysayers, those saying "you need that fill!" "why wouldn't he fill it?" and etc...

I go back June 1, and I hope to have lost another 10 lbs by then...No, I'm gonna lose 10 lbs by then!

You should be proud!  Your results so far are awesome!  And, your Dr. is right.  That band is helping you eventhough you may not feel restriction.  Here are the questions Dr.s generally use to determine if you need a fill or not:
1. Are you hungry between meals?
2. Has your weight loss stalled?
3. Can you eat more than 1/2-1 cup of food per meal?

If you answer yes to at least 2 of these questions you would likely get a fill.  But for now, you're doing well, so don't ru****!  You may have also had a primer fill at surgery.  Every Dr. is different and you would have to ask yours, but my surgeon puts in 3cc's during surgery.  You may have some in there and don't even realize it.

If things change and you think it's time, you can always call and make another appointment.  But for now, keep doing what you're doing!

Best~

I absolutely love your positive attitude. That kind of attitude is exactly what got me where I am today. You can do this! Keep at it!

I actually went 3 months without a fill per my choice.  I lost 30 pounds and didn't have much hunger.  You are doing great right now, no need for a fill if you aren't super hungry all the time!  Congrats on your weight loss!

I agree with your doctor, if it ain't broke, don't fix it...1-2 lbs per week is the average, you are doing better than that...fills are just another tool...if the hammer is working, why add a screwdriver??

My doc told me the same thing at my last meeting March 28th if it aint broke dont fix it lol.

Keep up the great work. !!!!

That is great!! Keep it up!!

I'm now 8 weeks out and when I went in for my 6 week check I was down 29lbs since surgery (Feb 17th). I wasn't given my 1st fill either which was fine by me. I can go 3 to 5 hours without being hungry. I will see my Dr again on May 11th (12 weeks post-op) and hopefully I will have the same result. As of yesterday my scale shows I'm down a total of 34lbs in 8 weeks but I officially go off my Dr's scale.
