Spin Class .. Any Takers? Question

Hello Band Buddies...

Quick background.. I took a spin class a few weeks ago and since then when I hit the gym I ride the spin bike on my own for 20 min or so challenging but it's not the same as a spin class.

Anyways yesterday I found a class that fit my schedule and when it to it. It was great I still have to fight the "fear" of going to that class because I feel so self concious.. but I told myself your going!! LOL .. after the class the teacher told us that in order for the class to be effective it must be taken twice it week otherwise it's more of a strain on your body.. I think because of the endurance of the muscles .. the leg work it's pretty intense.. she even recommended taking a bath with some salt to relieve the swelling in your muscles.

Does anyone take spin classes 2 - 3 times a week??? Thoughts?? Currently I'm taking Body Pump (weight lifting class) 2 x and the rest is cardio since I still want to lose weight I try really up my cardio with some weight lifting and I like this balance of weights 2 days and Cardio 3 days..

Any suggestions thought would be help... (NSV I'm talking about exercising bahahahahaha)

I do RPM which I think is about the same as Spin, just the Les Mills version (same people who put out Body Pump).

I try to do it at least 3 mornings a week and sometimes I'll do an afternoon class if I'm feeling up to it.  If I take the class in the afternoon after I've done it the morning before.. I won't put as much resistance on.. to give my muscles a little downtime.

I'm glad you're getting over the fear of that class.  I remember a year ago, walking on the treadmill and seeing the girls come out of the RPM room and they were just drenched and looked wrung out, and I remember thinking "that looks really hard and I don't think I could do that".  And now here I am, one of the regulars.. LOL.  Hang in there it does get better.

You might want a padded seat or padded bike shorts.  I used both for a while my tushie was so sore.

Just spun this morning!! Spun yesterday, too!! I never heard anything about taking it at least twice a week. I'll text my spin instructor and ask him. I love it. My bodybugg has me burning around 600 calories in a one hour class. And the after burn is awesome. I burned calories for at least 3 hours after the class, too!!

Will keep you posted. Good luck and enjoy the ride!!

Oh my gosh thank you so much Ozzie.

She said because spin is such a strain on your muscles not doing it at least twice a week it's not benefical for you .. and she said it takes approx 1 month to see changes in your body

Like I mentioned I Body Pump 2 a week and now spin twice a week is a tad overwhelming... I was mentioning to my friends.. spin is so hard and the whole time I'm telling myself Lizette stay on this bike .. don't quit Lizette because my heart is saying Lizette jump off this bike and walk out this class.. it's a debate in my head but I stuck with it.. When I leave spin I feel so accomplished and I don't get that feeling from zumba tho I leave zumba sweaty too

I think it's a load of hooey.  I get the whole strain on your muscles thing, but burning calories is burning calories.  I used to spin 5 times a week (before I got fat) and I'm now spinning 3-4 times a week and am not experiencing any ill effects....quite the contrary.  I have more definition in my legs and my arms are getting toned and my back is getting stronger.

I have no proof, but hooey I say.

Just heard from my spin guru (instructor). He believes in changing up your cardio routine.

"You don't have to take two spin class you can do other type of cardio exercise, which is good because after awhile your body starts to retain muscle memory and when you do the same routine, you might not have they results you desire because of the same weekly routine so I suggest switching your cardio weekly to keep your muscle and body confused so that you get the best results for putting in your hard work. I hope this helps..."

Just another opinion, but it makes sense to me!!

Thank you SOOO much!! It does make sense to me and I want to spin 1 day a week and maybe use the spin bike on my own for some cardio by myself I usually last 20 min.

I'm doing a variety of workouts right now: body pump, zumba, now spin, trying some yoga and I'm going to try another class called body combat tomorrow.. I also found this new machine at my gym called Trek Mil it's like hiking.. I like it.. I'm constantly trying to mix up ..
