Unfill question- will getting .05 out make a difference?
I am so torn and have decided to seek some advice from you expert bandsters out there. I had a fill about a month ago (only .25) and I was too tight so I went back and my doctor took out .2 cc. Apparently, I am very sensitive to the slightest adjustment (I had to have an unfill after my second fill as well). As of yet, I don't even have 5 cc in my 10 cc band. However, I am still getting stuck...ALOT. In fact, I just PB'd greek yogurt w/granola (and I was definitely eating slowly and taking small bites). I also have noticed a very tiny bit of reflux/heartburn but it doesn't keep me awake at night. I am able to drink liquids without a problem and, honestly, I am not very careful about taking small sips.
I think I finally am in the "green" zone as far as hunger and am fearful that getting any liquid out will put me back in the red. Is it possible to only get .05 out and do you think it will make a difference? I love the band and it has helped me to lose 51 lbs in 6 months. Having said that- I also want to be able to eat good solid protein and that is a real struggle at the moment.
Thanks for your help!

My PA says it's almost impossible to get anything less than .2 in or out. It's hard to measure.
If you are not being careful with drinking, then do you really think you are being careful enough with eating? If you are eating too fast with even soft foods like yogurt, things may back up. Put the spoon down and count to 30 between each bite and see if that helps. Also, in the a.m. many of us are tight. Try drinking a warm beverage before eating in the morning.
The reflux/heart burn can be a result of irritation to the esophagus. If you're pbing a lot, you should do liquids only for a day and avoid caffeine, spicy or acid foods and chocolate.
If this continues, have a slight unfill. It's not worth the damage that can be done by pbing a lot and reflux.
Take care,
Lisa O.

Thanks, Lisa. I am going to be VERY mindful of my eating for the next few days. Perhaps the problem with my yogurt is that it was REALLY cold...I had it sitting in the mini fridge at work and that fridge is really cold. I am currently eating it again (after letting it sit out for an hour) and it seems to be going down easier. I really am scared to get an unfill but I want to be able to eat...at least some. This is such a learning process!
I am very sensitive with fills also. The most I have ever had in my band was 5.2 and it ultimately was so tight that it led to a slipped band. I have a 10 ml band. I am currently at 4.4 now and feel to tight. Four weeks ago I had 0.5 ml put in and ended up going back a couple hours later and had 0.3 ml taken out. I have another appt next Tuesday and am thinking I will have another 0.2 taken out. A few drops seem to make a huge difference to me. This is my third time around starting all over with fills. Thinking I will see how the next month goes after the unfill and then will consider whether we unfill totally again and leave it unfilledd. Hope things go batter for you, but I can relate to what you are going through. About the only guaranteed food that I can get down is slider food.

I seem to be sensitive, too. Right now I have 2.5 cc in my 10cc band. What I can tell you is that it is not worth being too tight. Give it a try being careful and doing what you need to avoid getting stuck, but if that is not enough then get a bit out.
Good luck, Sue

I have been going through the exact same thing as you recently. I got my last fill just before Thanksgiving and had to go have .25ml of that taken out a few weeks later. Since then I had been doing really well, losing well and no problems eating, not hungry...perfect. Then about two and half months ago, I started to have epidoses of being stuck or sliming, but no heartburn. I brought it up to my Dr. my last visit in February. We talked about it and I decided not to get any fluid removed.
Since then I have had three/four episodes of heartburn and more sliming. Sometimes it during my TOM, and when I had a cold, but still more frquently than I wanted. I went back yesterday for my 1 year anniversary visit and my Dr. and I decided to take a little out. I don't know how much, I never ask. I don't even know how much is in my band. I didn't want to become obsessed with the amount.
On the upside, I feel much better. I have been able to eat more solid protein, but still small portions. No reflux since, so I'm happy.
My advice would be to err on the side of caution. A little adjustment is better than a slip or erosion. Good luck with your decision.
