Lap Band in Ontario??

Has anyone had a lap-band done in Ontario, Canada?? I'm wondering about whether private clinics are any good...

We have a few Canadian members on this forum, though I can't remember right now which provinces they're from. You might get some helpful responses if you post your question on the OH forum for your province.

Try googling the Surgical Weight Loss Centre (SWLC) in Mississauga.  I went to a talk by one of their surgeons last year.  He was fabulous, Chris Coburn or Coburg, something like that.  Their clinic has done over 2500 lapbands.  He had one of their patients, who is actually a coroner, come and talk to our group about the whole experience and largely speaking her experience has been just like mine. 

There is a woman in his office named Jessica who will give you info.  Great group.

It is NOT covered by OHIP and the cost is $16,000.00.  Five of that is just the actual device.  The doctor said that some private insurance companies are starting to pay for their client's devices but you'd be on your own for the rest.   RNY and Sleeves are covered in Ontario through the province's bariatric registry program.  See your family physician to be added to that list.

Don't know what city you're in but if it's Ottawa you can contact Dr. Douglas Bishop on Carling Avenue.  He does all of the follow-up for the SWLC for the Ottawa area. 

I live just outside Ottawa but on the Quebec side and had my band surgery in Montreal in February.  If I can help with any information about that don't hesitate to let me know.  Good luck - best thing I've ever done!!  Regards, Karol
