Lap Band and back pain ?

Is it a coincidence ?

I know I had back pain prior to my band surgery. After surgery I experienced entirely different back pain and this was before my MVA which was on April 1st 2007. I recall seeing some others posting that they were also experiencing back pain post WLS.

Someone said it may be because our center of balance has shifted since we have lost some weight. Has any body else experienced back pain since having WLS ( Any kind of WLS ) ? and what is your theory ?

I'll post this to the Main forum as well as Say Anything.

Thanks.

I'm sure that this isn't your case, but I've had my band slip twice and both times I experienced really bad back pain...and I suffer from chronic back pain because of a car cra**** was actually because of the back pain that I suspected my band had slipped this last time. Are you having any other troubles? Swallowing, vomiting, etc?

My first band slipped back in 08  and this band has not slipped. I had my MVA in 07 but the band had not slipped. My back pain is in many places. but the ones that I know that come after eating are the left shoulder pain and the middle to upper thoracic part of my back.

Are you talking about muscular back pain (spasms) or skeletal (arthritic).  I have spinal stenosis diagnosed in 2007 and SI joint dysfunction.
If I eat too fast or don't chew well, and I get a little stuck, I have back pain, but that is not originating in the back...

I don't know what you mean when you say back pain. When I have not chewed well and have too much for my band, I experience pain in my upper back around my shoulder blade. As the food issues resolve, the pain subsides.

This is a totally different type of back pain that I have experienced from muscle spasms, sciatic nerve issues, etc. That pain I generally think of as being muscular-skeletal in nature, not food related.

I have 6 protruding disc's and spinal stenosis. I think having the band just irritates the crap out of my back.

My back is actually better since losing weight...I have had some episodes where it got worse, temporarily, because of COB shifts, but it works itself out.  I also stopped going to the chiropractor, since it seemed to aggravate it rather than help me out.

My doctor told me that our stomachs are really more toward the back than front- so when I am too tight, I experience back pain- almost like my bra is too tight.
