Okay, so I just had my first stuck episode.  Ugh - what an awful experience!!!   I know I need to be on liquids now for the next 24 hrs, but should I wait a certain amount of time before I have my dinner (shake)?

wait...so you have to do liquids if you get stuck?? My doc didn't mention that.

When you get stuck, it irritates the stoma, ( opening from upper pouch to your lower stomach) and your esophagus. The swelling could cause even more food to get stuck, so you need to do fluids for at least 24 hours and then progress to softs and carefully move back to your dense protein.

As far as the shake for your dinner, you can have it now.

Some were told this some were not . I personally just play it by ear . If it was simply a burp up kind of  thing I wait awhile and take it easy food wise  try to eat kind of soft /mushie stuff .If it was a bad episode I do liquids for a cpl meals til the swelling and tenderness goes away. Maybe call your Dr tomorrow just for good measure and ask what they prefer you do so if it happens again you will know. If you are not sore I would think drinking your shake would be fine. :) This is just me though and I am not a Dr nor do I play one on TV .LOL
