Some general advice that my doctor has given me regarding my insomia:
- keep your bedroom as an area for sleep and sex only.  don'****ch tv, do work, etc. in bedroom
- get a clock that doesn't glow, or turn yours around so you can't see it
- try background noise, like a fan, or a cd of the ocean, rain, etc.
- don't eat after 6-7pm, if you can
- no or very little caffeine, none at all at night
- try milk or hot tea to relax you
- make time to unwind at night
- go to bed and get up at the same time every day, even weekends
- turn off the computer/phone at least an hour before bed

If you try things that aren't working, maybe call your PCP, you may need a prescription sleep aid.  I have tried Melatonin, benadryl, all the OTC sleep aids, and eventually, they stop working for me.

Share, I take the amino's in capsule form.  I take between 3 and 9 per day.  The  there are multiple aminos so the from 50 mg to 1200 mg. in one dosage of 3 capsules.  They REALLY work.

As for the energy drink, switch to something healthier.  I used to live on rockstar, monster, redbull, and coffee.  I would always crash, and feel so jittery.  I drink a vitamin b drink with amino acids in it now and have given up all the other junk and feel so much better.  And it actually brought my vit b levels into normal range.  I was supposed to be on injections even before my RNY.  Never took them and I am in normal range with energy to spare.

Melatonin give me restless legs.  I get sleepy but my body feels antsy.  It works for some but never did for me.  I was on ambien before.  Went off when my body got regulated after surgery and did fine until about a month ago.  I am not sleeping throught the night anymore so I went back on.  I still wake up though since my digestive system processes the rx so fast.  Insomnia sucks.  I hope you get it figured out soon!
