First Zumba class today
I joined a gym on Wednesday (This is after joining a different gym twice and cancelling the membership due to being uncomfortable there). I didn't work out on Wed, but I did 30 minutes of cardio yesterday and then went to a 1 hour Zumba class today for the first time. It is so much harder than I thought it would be! Not just the workout itself, but I am so uncoordinated and rhythmically challenged, that I had a hard time getting the hang of it, lol. Unfortunately, the gym doesn't have a beginner's class, but the instructor advised us to go at least five times before we made a decision on whether we like it. I'm going to go to another class tomorrow.
Don't give up - just give it a chance! I love it. I've only been going once a week for about six weeks, and I still feel very uncoordinated, but my instruction says just keep moving and that's all that matters. I really love going and it is a great workout. The only thing is that for me, it gets harder every week instead of easier and I'm not sure why. Maybe as I become more familiar I try to be more precise in my movements? I don't know, but I do love it.
They have classes at my gym, but I haven't gone to them. It's really hard to get in - you have to line up as much as 30 minutes before the class to get in and I just haven't been willing to do that. I'd like to go more often so I guess I'm going to have to do the lines or something.
Have fun!

I'm so glad you're going to keep going. It doesn't matter if you can do the steps or not, as long as you are moving, you're burning calories.
I find that the longer I take the classes, the more coordinated I get with my feet and as I can quit focusing on my feet, I can focus more on my abs and get more work done there.
The instructors where I go use quite a bit of knee twisting, which I can't do. Well, maybe I could, but I'm scared to try as my knees hurt sometimes just from normal movement. So I modify the movements to something that's comfortable for me.
I promise it will get easier and the classes are so much fun. I'm not a dancer in the least, but in Zumba I feel a little bit like one. :)

Keep going and just keep moving! I go and the intstructor gave a good tip for Zumba, follow the beat of the music, don't get caught up in following the steps. Most other workouts count steps in a 4 to 8 count but Zumba is based on the change in the music. Good luck and soon you will get the workout down pat.
