Are you in the Pre-surgery process too?

I am just beginning the pre-surgery process with meeting with the general practitioner and food journaling.  I'm sharing a post I made to my blog last night because I was shocked at how dilluded I have been about what I am eating.  I am wondering how the heck I will make such drastic changes post surgery.  If anyone else is in this stage, please add me as a friend and perhaps we can keep each other motivated.

My post:

I've never tracked calories before but I took a friends advice and downloaded the livestrong app and created a login.  What an eye-opener!

Today I talked with my therapist, Val, about my thoughts on WLS and my hopes for the upcoming months.  We also discussed my fears and especially my fear that I don't have the discipline.  She said to start with the idea that I am choosing to develop discipline and that we'd start by just recording what I eat every day and the mood I have at the time that I eat.   I would then take this to her each week and discuss how, why, when and what I am eating every day.  Oh Lord...I had no idea I was consuming this much each day.  My thoughts before I recorded todays intake on livestrong were "Gee I only ate half a chicken sandwhich for lunch and half my fries...and I only ate one piece of pepperoni pizza for dinner.  I gasped when I saw the caloric and fat intake.  Feel free to leave comments, suggestions, observations...

Adjustable Gastric Band on 07/07/11
I am waiting to get a surgery date. I have 4 weeks of nutritional seminars in May so it won't be before then. The band is a tool. It will help us to be satisfied with less food. But it won't take away head hunger. That is something we will have to learn to distinguish from real hunger.  We'll support each other through this lapband journey. I hope my insurance approves me, first!!!

I am also in the process of getting my surgery date...I go to a seminar Tuesday night and I think by then I will make my decision as to Lap Band or RNY....My Dr seems to think he can get my surgery date fairly quik instead of the 6 month waiting period required by insurance( lets hope) the only thinkg my NUT has set as far as goals is to quit smoking, eat breakfast, and no coke which I start my chantix tomorrow, I am down to a coke a day if that but the breakfast thing is hard for me( always has been) Good Luck to everyone

Good luck to all of you!  I'm grateful for the support and excited to begin the process.  I did much better on the food intake today than yesterday.   Tracking my meals and snacks on that site is wonderful because it paints a true picture of what I am consuming.  Good luck on your surgery!  I'll send prayers your way!
