Hello everyone...I'm 2wks out today from surgery...My question is, I am completely exhausted still...is that still normal?  I forgot to ask my doctor yesterday.  I emailed them on whether or not I can do a chewable vitamin, but I haven't heard anything...My one doctor I work with, said "Jamie, you have to understand that you are completely changing the way your body worked for the last 31 years, its gonna feel like you are wiped out for awhile"...it makes sense but has anyone felt this way too???

Any advice would be great!  Thanks everyone!

I am 8 weeks out tomorrow and it took me 6 weeks to not be tired and feel like I needed a nap after getting my kids off to school and doing my make up and hair.  I have had 2 weeks of feeling better than I can remember in a long time.
It takes a long time and the dr. you work with is correct.  Just try and take it easy and give your body time.  My dr. started me on chewable vit. 1 week after surgery.  Good luck!!

I felt pretty good after the first week, but I had taken two weeks off from work.  If you can't do the chewable vitamins yet, GNC has some vitamins in liquid form.  I use thier liquid Vitamin B Complex, which is supposed to help energy levels.  I would also suggest that even if you are tired, to try to do a little more physically each day to build your strength, nothing strenuous, but walking a little extra, that kind of thing.

Naph,

I will have to look into that for sure!  I agree.  As tired as I am, I know getting up and moving will only help more!  I found that out after surgery as well...Thank you for the advice!!  Its amazing to me, how much a little action like walking can help so much!!

Thanks again for everything!!

My doc told me when I got really weak right after surgery that it was probably ketosis.  I like the gummie adult vitamins.  I could not find a chewable one I could stand.  But you really have to chew and chew the gummies.

My daughter and I both had our lap band surgeries the same day. In fact we were room mates too. She was only 19 when she had this done. She was out walking around the mall with her friends about 10 days out from her surgery, I being much older took a lot longer to heal. I was tired and sore for many weeks. It was a good two months before I felt normal again.

Also less fuel ( food ) going into your body means less energy. Take it easy and soon you will begin to feel better.

I'd say thats absolutely normal....it takes a good two months or more to get over any surgery properly, never mind the fact that you are eating fewer calories.
Hope you feel better soon.....Jill

Jamie,

I was up and back to work fairly quickly, but was exhausted for a while. It takes a bit for your body to heal after surgery, so be kind to yourself for a while.

I wasn't allowed to take vitamins for 2 weeks after surgery and then it was only liquid. When I got to four weeks out, I was able to add in the chewables and gummies.

Best of Luck!

i'm just over four weeks out, but i'm still exhausted.

i find that the days i walk or jog (no strenuous exercise for me, yet), i feel as though i have more energy.

the days i don't, i could fall asleep at the drop of a hat.

good luck! hope you're feeling back to normal lately.

oh, and i've taken my vitamins since day 4 or 5. i think it would be okay....but i'd double-check just to be sure.

Thank you all very much for your replies.  My doctor said the NUT will tell me when I can take them...Dont you think that is weird?  Why wouldn't the doctor tell me?  Anyway, I will just take it as easy as I can with 3 kids and a full time job!!  it will get easier!!  onward and upward right!!

thanks again everyone!
