If you go to any board and ask for success stories, that is what is going to post. Do your own research on complication rates, percent excess weight loss, etc.

I do feel as if I'm getting answers from all sides, though.  The good and the bad.  What worked and didn't - so I'm considering this part of my research!

Do not allow your surgeon push the bypass on you, YOU are the one that will have to live with the side effects of this surgery THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. Sure he is going to suggest it, HE WILL GET MORE MONEY FOR THE BYPASS than the band for one, number TWO, some surgeons don't like the aftercare the band REQUIRES.

If I were you I would NOT LET this surgeon operate on me. I would cancel and find a BAND ONLY surgeon, there is some in Virginia if you are not far away that only does lap bands. My starting weight was 326, and my surgeon told me that the band WOULD NOT WORK FOR ME...he wanted me to get the bypass too, but I refused it's MY body and I knew that I would lose weight by working the band and walking every day.............and guess what? Everyone I know that got the bypass over 5 years ago HAS TO DIET AND EXERCISE MORE THAN I DO to keep their weight down and PLUS many have gained weight back they no longer have much restriction on top of that, MANY have been hospitalized SEVERAL TIMES, with strictures, bowel obstructions, hernias and they live DAILY IN MISERY from DUMPING and Hypoglycemia and they even get sick and faint from sweets, wine, beer, some even get sick daily and sweat, vomit and shake just from REAL FOOD......If you want to go more invasive than the band I would  start with the Sleeve rather than the bypass, I would not wish that life on anyone.

If you get a plan and walk daily and follow the band rules you can lose your weight it's not that hard, the only hard thing about it is staying motivated and once you get restriction it makes it real easy to diet and stay on track, NO WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY IS A FREE RIDE....the only reason some bypass people lose more is by torture and getting sick on foods, I don't consider being tortured the best way to lose weight.

Good luck
