too much to lose with lap band?

I just spoke to my surgeon and he advised that I have bypass instead of lap band.  I was not prepared for that.  He said I have too much to lose (over 100 lbs) and with mild diabetes and sleep apnea the bypass would be the better route.  I really want Lap Band.

Can anyone tell me if it would be possible to lose more than 100 lbs with lap band?  I really didn't want the more invasive, restrictive surgery.  Any help, advice will be appreciated.

There is alot of ladies on this board that has lost more then a 100 pounds with the lapband.

I started off at 348 so I know I have more then a hundred to lose lol. I have almost lost 50 pounds in four and half months

A guy in my support group 2.5 yrs ago had his surgery had his first fill 4 weeks ago and has lost over 200 pounds so it can be done

I have lost 140 lbs.  But I also work out 9 hours a week and watch what I eat.  I follow the Band rules.  I made sure I went in for after care and band fill if needed.

It's been a lot of work.  It's not automatic.  I work at it every day.  I wouldn't change my mind.  I am so happy I got my surgery and I am almost at my goal weight.  My life is so much better now and I have energy and I feel good.

Thank you for your responses!  I'm wondering if it is due to my health issues.  My cousin had this surgery done a few years ago and she was in the same boat.  Maybe my surgeon is just being more cautious?   I am scheduling an appointment with him ASAP.  I'll bring my husband along.  I really don't want the gastric bypass but I'm hoping the surgeon will still do lap band.

Jor if you dont want the bypass done then dont get it done its your body , you are the one that has to live with the surgery not your doctor so you do what YOU want to do :o)

Unless he gives you a very very good medical reason as to why you shouldnt get the lapband done then if the lapband is what you want then that is what you should get .

Do make sure though you have a doctor that supports your decision 110% though. After care is soo important with the lapband so you want a doctor you can trust and will help you through the first yr :o)

I thought I had finally reached a good decision with the lap band so I thought all was good!  I've heard great things about this surgeon so I'm hoping he will support my decision.

I had diabetes, apnea and a host of other comorbidities as well. All gone, except for osteoarthritis in my knees, which will never go away.
