Realize band or Lap Band?

the "recall" was for a part that prevents the tubing from kinking on older "models" that might be in the hospital's stock, and is a part the lap band doesn't even have...

Questions about recall? Ethicon Endo-Surgery has introduced an enhanced design of a component of the REALIZE Adjustable Gastric Band and is voluntarily recalling remaining hospital inventories of the previous version. There is no action required for patients who already have received these gastric bands, and removal (explantation) of the gastric band is not required. For more information, click here. Well, I have the "old" Lap Band 10mm, 4cc band and it has worked very well for me.  When I had my band the Realize Band was not approved by the FDA yet.  It's all apples and oranges as far as I am concerned.  Ask your surgeon which one they feel is best for you.

I had a friend who had this choice to make and she asked me what I would do.

We have different surgeons, and my surgeon only does the lapband.

I suggested she ask her doc if he were banding a family member, which one would he choose for them.

I still don't know which one she ended up with, but she's doing well.

My dr. told me he would decide which band to use once he "got inside".  I have the realize band.
