How long after surgery before you returned to work?

For anyone who had the Lap-Band or Realize surgery, how long was it before you returned to work?  My first appt with a general practitioner for the start of my 6 mth monitored wl is at the end of April (required by my insurance)  That puts me at Nov or dec 2011 for surgery.   I'm wondering how many days off work I should plan for.

I probably could've gone back to work in a week, but I took two weeks just to be safe.  I know some people on the board have had the surgery on a Friday and went back to work on Monday, but I would take at least a week if you can.

I haven't been banded yet but people I work with said they had surgery on a friday and were back to work on monday. One supervisor just had it done but she chose to take 2 weeks off. I think it depends on the type of job you do and how you yourself will feel.

I too am in my 6 mo monitored time and should be finishing up at the same time as you that's awesome

It depends on your job.  I'm a RN and have to be able to lift 50 pounds and if a patient would start to fall, I have to be able to keep them from falling.  So I was off for the entire 6 weeks with short term disability pay.  I also had a large hiatal hernia repaired.

I took a week, but the only reason I did it was so because I could concentrate on getting my protein in and staying hydrated.    I had my surgery on a Friday and I could have come back to work on Tuesday...I was still too pooped on the Monday immediately afterwards.

I'm just finishing up my 6 months of monitoring next week and hope to be banded sometime late May or early June.  I've already prepared my boss and told her I was taking 2 weeks off.  Even if I don't need it, I'm still taking it off, just so that I know for sure, I'm okay.  My office is located so far away from the bathroom and I'm just petrified that I have the urgent need to be there "Right Now"....and not make it.  So I'm planning ahead.  Anyway....it will be nice out and I can relax on the deck while I'm healing and becoming a Bandster on the wonderful Looser's Bench.  Good luck with everything.   This is a great bunch of folks here and I'm constantly learning something from each and every one!!  Barb

I have a sedentary desk job, so had surgery on a Thursday and returned to work the following Tuesday so ultimately only took 3 work days off, and I was totally fine.

I was banded on a Friday morning. I was at work the next Tuesday morning at my own choice. I was sore and exhausted Tuesday through Thursday. By 1 week I felt pretty normal.

I was banded on a Thurs. went back on a Monday...left work at 1/2 day feeling like I had been hit by a truck..running fever, etc.  Went to Dr. and had Bronchitis...stayed home the rest of that week.

So, If I had to do it all over again, I would take a week at least just to make sure ;o)
