Dr Oz's lap band show

I was VERY upset with his show today. Seemed like someone was paying him to advertise the lap-band. He only gave a few hints on the cons and dove right into the pros.

I've have the lap band for 4 years, have not had ANY weight loss. I've had fills and more fills. I even had fluid taken out a few times.

I eat just the way I use to eat before the surgery. I diet the same as I did before the surgery as well.

Why didn't he have someone on that didn't have ANY success with the band!?! I have had the band for 4 years and have seen NO results! *I'm in the process of revision surgery to the DS or RNY* I would have liked to talk to those two women thinking about getting the lap-band, that's for sure!!!!

**He should have added other weight loss surgery types like RNY, DS, VSG, VBG, MGB....ect... I know he only has an hour show, but he should have and most definitely COULD have talked about what the difference was in restrictive weight loss surgeries and malabsorptive weight loss surgeries.

I think Dr OZ approves of the band because it is the ONLY wl surgery that has a "TYPICAL HEALTHY" lifestyle of proper nutrition and diet whi*****ludes exercise..SUPPOSEDLY.....the band is NOT for everyone, hopefully one day he will have a show other types of wls. The band DOES work for millions of Americans, it's only a few that have problems and they are MAINLY on Obesity Help, but in REAL life many are successful and complication free.

MANY people get the band to stay and a healthy weight, everyone who gets wls does not desire to be a size 0 and full of nutritional deficiencies.

How could you call that one lady (on the show) who was 6 months post-op healthy?? Did you see what she was claiming to eat every day? Where was her protien and vitamins??

I agree the food that she was eating was more of a post op diet after surgery, but it could be that she had just got an adjustment, but honestly, most people who are pretty tight can't eat that much, I agree her CHOICE of food was NOT nutritious, but again, that may not be her typical daily diet, but I think most bandsters in their first year eat soft foods or very moist solid foods.

What??? There are only a FEW that the lapband doesn't work for and they are mainly on OH?
Wow!  There are millions of ppl not on OH who have problems. This surgery is the most out of any wls for revisions.
Everyone know the LB is the least effective wls with more than just a FEW how have problems with it.

He's probably being paid by the manufacturers and going by their information which is very slanted. I saw one of my docs today to have ALL the saline out of my band and she told me some very interesting things so look for my post later.

Dr. Oz I believe promoted it because the FDA has approved it for people who have a lower BMI.  He is not going to please everyone.  I have two friends who have not had good success with the band.  I think if you  have over 100 to 150 lbs. to lose it is a lot harder with the band.  Actually one of my friends had the VSG a year ago and she hasn't lost any weight with that surgery.  So I guess it really is a crap shoot.  Maybe someday they will be able to determine a test which will definitely say which surgery will work for each candidate.  I do sympathize with you it must be devastating to have the band surgery and not succeed.  Good luck in your future WLS.

I hate it when a show, forum, etc. only wants ONE version shown! Very unfair to those researching the band!!!

RNY with
I jumped over to the website to watch it real quick and I agree for different reasons. First I love my band, however I cant stand the public imagine that makes it look like a cake walk. This show didn't explain crap about the procedure. I mean did you see the food these women were "supposedly" eating post op? 5 spoons of yogurt, soup, and pudding for the one gal? At 6 months post op? Those are ALL sliders and she would be starving as well as malnourished. The other woman had more reasonable portions but it included huge penne noodles. WTF? Most lapband postops can not eat noodles but even those who can know they shouldn't. Oh and I assure of you neither of the tables of post op meals included even remotely close to 70 grams of protein.

I also didn't appreciate that they had to promote the image that every person is fat because they gorge on nachos and full bags of cookies in one sitting, meanwhile the rest world just sits back validating their judgments of fat people and wls. As if we have to be reduced to 15 spoons of food all day to lose weight after binging on cheeseburgers our whole lives, grrr!!
