Lap Band Doesn't work?
All weight-loss surgeries can fail, for various reasons. User error, doctor's error, sometimes a certain WLS is just not right for a person. Lapband does seem to have the most revisions but others with other surgery types revise as well. Just as those with the band revise to RNY, some with RNY revise to the band. A lot of people nowadays go for the sleeve.
You'll find a mixture of people here; some who the band didn't work for, some who it worked for amazingly. I'm part of the latter; 113lbs down, 11 to go.
Good luck with whichever surgery you choose!

From a size 20 to a size 2! Woo hoo.
I agree, all WLS have failure. I would read all the board's forum's if I was you, including the DS and Sleeve, so you have all the info you might need. You need to choose what you think is best for you. I'm sure all have many people who are very successful with their choice. I personally only know 4 other people who've had WLS, all RNY. Only 1 has lost all her weight and kept it off. But she works on it every day. She exercises routinely and eats right. IMHO I think that is key in what ever type of surgery you choose. Nothing comes easy. I have had no problems with the band and still would choose it. Read all you can. Good luck.
Mari Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels!

Lapband doesn't work for me.. I WORK THE BAND. I eat small measured meals of protein & produce, I drink lots of fluids, I exercise daily.
started 383.. 2 years later I'm now 189. Still obese, but MUCH improved. I don't expect to ever reach what is called a "normal" BMI.. but mainly cause the BMI isn't adjusted for age or athletes. I'm over 50 and need to have a little bit of weight on my hips to protect from fractures. I also work out quite a bit and have more muscle mass than many women my age.. so the BMI isn't accurate for me.
There is possibility of regain with all WLS. And all WLS's have pros and cons.
Good luck with whatever you choose.

I tend to think if you are willing to do the work...meaning follow the rules, eat healthy, and exercise. Any WLS will work for you. If you get a WLS and just expect to sit in your recliner nibbling on pizza then eventually all WLS options will fail.
Of course there are the exceptions. Some people seem to have problems from day one that are not any fault of their own. But I know there are complications that can happen with all WLS. If you think about it no matter what surgery you choose it's still a roll of the dice. You or the doctors have no idea how your body will respond to the band or the new internal configuration of your organs after surgery. I just weighed the risks of surgery to the risks of being 354 lbs at 37 and decided I had more of a chance of dying of complications of obesity than WLS complications.

As far as RNY'er revising to Lap-Band I only know of 2 or 3. However I know of TONS of bandsters that revise from the band TO RNY, VSG and DS.
As far as me the Lap-Band has been a complete waste of time and money. I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy.
If you want a true representation of the Lap-Band I would suggest asking this same question on the VSG, RNY and DS forum since there are so many on there that have revised FROM the band to a more effective WLS.
Good luck!
