I have heard there is some hair loss after surgery, so I just wanted to know how much hair loss and how long does it last? I have thin hair as it is so I don't want to go bald. Thanks Diana

If I had any it was so small I never noticed it and Im over four months out . I never did wake up with hair on my pillows or even brushing my hair or washing it .

Like I said if I did I never noticed it .  My gf was the same way she never noticed her's either .

If it's going to happen, it usually occurs around 3 months after surgery.

How much will vary from person to person.

Google "telogen effluvium" and that will explain it better than I can.

With the Lap-Band there is some hair loss.  Partly due to the anethesia that they may use and a decrease in protein.  Mine began falling out about 4 months after surgery and I began taking Biotin and added a protein drink between meals.  My hairloss lasted longer than I was comfortable with, but if I had to guess I would say that I lost about 20%, but I have thick hair.

Would I choose surgery again even though I lost some hair.....I sure would.  If you are thinking of having the surgery start in advance for preparing for the hair loss by taking Biotin if it is ok with your Dr.

Google telogen effluvium.  Temporary hair loss caused by trauma. For bandsters, the trauma is the anaesthetic and the damage is done right then at the op.. By the time the hair falls out (damaged follicles) regrowth has already started. Rapid weight loss can also cause it but we bandsters do not get that! It is people with other wls surgeries who lose enormous amounts very fast.

Lack of nutrients could also cause it but if you make sure you are getting a  balanced diet, you should be able to control that.

The majority of bandsters don't get hair loss. I didn't.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
