I started wanting the lap band at 379 pounds...went on a diet plan to get my 6 month diet plan in and on my own lost almost 30 pounds during that time. I was told that if you lost alot then they can turn on you and say well...she lost that much on her own so why does she need the band. How true that is...I haven't a clue, but I will say...it would make it a much safer surgery if you could lose some of the weight before you have anything done. I went in the morning of the surgery weighing in at 351 pounds and a year later went down to 207 meaning I've lost a total of 144 pounds in a year. I love my band although I had many including my Dr. telling me that they felt the Lap Band wasn't my best choice. If you want it bad enough...it will happen. Best of luck on your choice and wish you nothing but the best! Keep us posted on what you decide to do....hopefully next time we see a post it will be how happy you are with your choice and that the weight is melting off. Good luck!!

Watching calories and fat worked for me. Also drink plenty of water. Although you don't have to see a nutritionist yet it helps. So if you can it wouldn't hurt to start now. It is important to find a good one. If you don't like the one you get find another. The right one makes all the difference. Logging food helps hold you accountable. If you are doing good it feels good to see it. If you have a slip it helps to see what you need to change. For me, when I'd have a slip I felt as if I'd blown it. But then I'd log what I ate and realize that I didn't do as much damage as I thought and I'd tell myself it was one slip. Tomorrow is another day. One slip will not make you gain what you have lost. As long as you pick yourself back up and start again the next day you will stay motivated and committed.

I started out at 379 lbs before surgery. I lost 14 lbs pre-op, and then I've lost 65 lbs since the band was placed.
Good luck on your weight loss journey.
