I am curoius as to who here started out in the mid to upper 300's?  I am currently at 382 the dr is requesting that I lose 20-25 during my pre op 6 mo diet. so I would be around 357ish when i have my surgery.  Who has began their journey around the same weight as me?

I started my journey at 572. I am excited to be inching my way down to the 300's. I lost 102 lbs pre-op in 6 months. My greatest tool in doing so was my nutritionist and keeping daily food logs on OH. Good luck. You can do it!

Hi Tami,

I didn't start off in the same place as you but I just have to say that airhead_74's advice is the best advice you can get for the prediet and post.  The food log, as much as I hate to do and use it, is the best weapon of choice!  There are free programs, websites and iphone apps out there that can help.  Sometimes I cringe when I input my food but it helps keep you honest.

Good luck with your prediet!

Joni

I started off at 348 and I'm down to 304 now since my surgery in late Nov.   I didn't have to do all the preop diet stuff I was self pay so all I had to do was six weeks with the NUT and then have my surgery .

Keep track of your calories , get rid of soda if you are drinking it you wont be allowed after surgery and that has tons of calories in it.

Just eat three well balanced meals a day .  Protein , veggies and carbs keep track of  your food. Log it no matter what you eat .

I eat around 80 grams of protein most days  I keep my carbs around 60 because I do alot of exercise and I keep my fats around 50 grams or less per day.

Star****ching your portions that is what gets us , its not the foods that we eat its the portions and not eating balanced meals. :o)

I was 385 when I went to the seminar.

383 day of surgery (my doctor didn't require a pre-op diet other than clear liquids for one day.. nor did he require a loss of any prior to surgery).

2 years later, I'm now about 189.  I've lost 190 lbs and hope to lose about another 20 and I'm starting to interview plastic surgeons.  I don't know if I'll have any PS done, but am starting to look into it.

You can do this!!

I started at 497, so it is definitly acheivable.  I've lost almost 160 pounds and I don't hit my 1 year anniversary for another two weeks.  Like everyone else I track everything on an app for my droid x.  I usually eat about 1000-1200 calories/day, 80-90 grams protein and less than 45 in fat.  I really only track for the protein content, but I know everything else I'm eating.  My doctor recommended I eat every three hours and I've pretty much stuck to that. Even if it's just a cheese stick.  I am struggling to get my water in lately, but I think that I've become too tight.  I'm planning to have a little fluid removed when I go back in a couple weeks.
Most of all, I think it's good to have a good relationship with your doctor and stick to your follow-ups, even if you think you haven't lost anything.  They are the best resource for you in this journey.

Good luck and ask every question you can think of

It's called Calorie Counter. It's a free app and really easy to use.  You can even point it at a barcode of a food and it will add it into your daily count.  It's a great resource.
Let me know if you have any questions.
