Hello,
My surgery is set for June 17. I am very excited but last year I lost weight and was down to 287. I would like to try to lose 10-20 pounds before the surgery. What diet would you suggest pre-op? I want to start something on Monday. What did you do to drop a few pounds before surgery?
Thanks!

I started eating right and exercising every day. I eat very healthy, but I OVER EAT everything healthy too which is not good. So all I had to do was cut my portions and step away from the table and exercise!!! I'm down 30lbs now, my surgery date is April 18th, so I can see a few more pounds coming off before then. I also stopped drinking with my meals and have become more conscious of when to drink and not to drink. My main focus now is trying to get alot of water in too. But Exercise is the key here with me!!! Good luck on your journey!! I can't wait to get started myself!!

My surgery was June 6, 2009 ---- and when i decided on surgery (10 weeks before my date), I sat down and had a long talk with myself.
I decided to start to eat 'like a bandster' from that day on.
I made plans to have 1 'eat what you want, how you want' meal 2 days before surgery --- but other than that, I was ready to go.
I made a list of foods that are true 'triggers' for me -- foods that I cannot eat a reasonable amount of. I worked an OA program and started to abstain from those foods. (by the grace of God, 2 years later, I am still abstinent from cake/cookies/ice cream/candy/baked goods, etc).
I bought 'kid spoons' and I started to eat off of a small plate.
I just paid careful attention to portion sizes -- and I started to exercise -- 10 minutes at a time a few times a week at first, and increasing 10 minutes per session per wee****il I was up to an hour at a time.
I stopped drinking during my meals --- I think that everyone can lose weight if they use that one trick -- stop washing the calories down our gullets before our body even senses that we are eating ---
I dropped 18 pounds in those days before surgery -- and gave myself proof that I can eat small, reasonable amounts of food and not die of hunger.
Good luck!!

My doc required I lose 10% of my body weight before he would give me the ok to have my surgery, even tho i had been approved thru insurance. He said that showed my dedication to the program. Well, I weighed 321#s, so I had to get off 32#s. I journaled, counted my calories, watched fat intake, drank lots of water. My doc also gave us having surgery a challenge...he asked us to find a gym (because if he said when you exercise at home you get distracted often and don't do it), get dressed and go there 5 days a week. We weren't required to work out, but we had to walk in 5 days a week. He said he knew it sounded silly, but he knew that if we went in regularly, eventually we'd do something while we were there. He was right. I started and never quit...I have been a regular ever since. I figured the more I lost pre-op, the less I had to do later.
Good Luck!

I have a gym membership. I plan on going 3-5 days a week for about 45-60 min. My goal next week is three days. I do have an elliptical at home but like going to the gym. I am trying to make my plan. Once I have one I am pretty good at keeping it. My Doc didn't say anything losing any weight before. I don't want to be in the 300s when I have surgery. Thanks for your ideas!
