Will I always be a slave to the scale?

Lisa,

I didn't know that Lionel enjoyed chewing metal and plastic. I thought oriental rugs and leather were his specialty. So he's branching out. That's a scary thought, especially since our resident weiner has been testing his teeth lately.

I like the idea of the 3-pound rule, and lately I've been repeating a saying I read here on OH (can't member where - possibly in someone's signature line): Nothing tastes as good as being skinny feels!

Well, yes, leather is his specialty but he's eaten about 4 pair of readers so he's obiously developing his taste for plastic.

I guess I'm number phobic.  I hate to look at the high number I've let myself get to over and over, so I try to weigh weekly, sometimes twice a week.  Even though it's going down, those high numbers just seem to scream at me.  Maybe when I make it to onederland, I can weigh daily.  Even though my doc and his office said the same thing about the 3 lbs.  My mind just doesn't except that for myself, though I'd be the first to tell someone else not to worry about a 3lb variance.

I am a scale slave, too.

One recommendation is to allow a piece of clothing be your guide instead of the scale.

Once a week, put on your smallest jeans, or skirt or whatever ---- if they zip/button/close and you can breathe, walk away proudly.
If they are too snug --- you know what to do.

For me -- denial was always the beginning of my out of control eating.
So, when I don't want to weigh, is when I  most need to weigh.

When I don't want to journal my food, is when I most need to journal my food.

I have to have something external that keeps me in check -- my internal monitor is badly broken.
So, scale, clothes, whatever --- I need at least a weekly reality check.

Kath,

So, when I don't want to weigh, is when I  most need to weigh.

When I don't want to journal my food, is when I most need to journal my food.

Ain't that the truth! For the past few mornings I've been telling myself it's OK to skip my food log today - I'm in too much of a ru****'s too tedious - etc. etc. I've been outvoting myself so far, but I suspect that my inner brat wants to get away with murder again and let my outer adult deal with the consequences!

OMG Jean I know what you mean. I almost live and die by the scale. I have been so busy these last 3 weeks though that I have not even weighed (and the scale needs a battery). I can tell by my clothes that I have not gained though, only because I have been working my ass off. I am moving and getting my condo ready to rent (has to be done by April 1st) so I have been working on it every night till around 12:00pm and I have to be at work at 5:00am...

I am just looking forward to Saturday when I can sleep all weekend...lol.

Bless your heart, Debbie, you've got a LOT on your plate these days, most of it not tasting very good!

I'm going to be in Nashville on April 8-10, attending the annual forum of the Eating Disorders Coalition of TN (at Lipscomb University). If you have any free time that weekend, it would be so cool to finally meet in person!

In the past, if I wasn't weighing on the scale, I was GAINING and GAINING.  So pretty much 99.9% of the time, I have weighed on my scale since the band.

My scale is powerful,it got me to ride the bike for 60 minutes today and walk with DH, Gracie and Jackers for 90 minutes.  I even jogged for a total of 6 minutes.  It also has me determined not to snack this evening.  So today, my scale has a lot of power. hahaha   Some days it gets me to cuss at it in the morning!  haha

Hugs,
Kristi
