Will I always be a slave to the scale?
I'm afraid of my bathroom scale, and I'm enslaved to it. Even when I'm not trying to lose weight (that day does eventually arrive, y'all!), I have to get on the scale every morning, and if I'm not feeling very strong-minded, I let the numbers on the scale dictate the tone for my day.
I wish I didn't do that. Sometimes I think I should have my husband hide the scale and bring it out only once a month, but I'm afraid that if I don't weigh everyday, unwanted weight will creep up on me. Today I'm thinking maybe I need to bring in an exorcist, because it's this particular scale that scares me so much. I've spent two 10-day vacations at Lisa O's house during which I was not once tempted to step on her scale.
Can anyone recommend a qualified and affordable scale exorcist?
Thanks,
Jean

1. Build a large bonfire (a popular leisure time activity out here in the boondocks).
2. Spread a canvas tarp on the ground near the fire.
3. Place the scale on the tarp.
4. Give the scale it's comeuppance with a sledgehammer.
5. Pick up the tarp and the scale and throw it in the bonfire.
6. Dance naked around the bonfire.
Well, probably not naked. It's only 39F here today.

I am a slave to mine but for me that is GOOD! It keeps me in line these days when i am very relaxed about eating. I weigh every morning and every night!! Then if my scale creeps up that little bit too high for my liking, I know to work on it straightaway.
But then I am, as all those who know me will attest, a fragile, helpless female (blonde, of course) with a slave complex, who needs a master.

I'm mulit-faceted. There's my shy, retiring side; my dominatrix side; my super-model side; my leader of the oppressed masses side; my modest side etc. etc.

I think daily weighing is actually better than those times where I avoid the scale for weeks, because those times are when I KNOW I am eating poorly and ignoring my band. So I guess I will stick with being drawn to that darned little slab of white metal with the fickle numbers.
And BTW, Jean, thanks for clarifying that your hubby is human. Sometimes men almost seem like another species so we can never be sure.
Well, this will give you another chuckle. When I first wrote that paragraph, that line about my husband went like this: "59-yr-old adult male (said to be human)".

The scale thing is bitter sweet. I used to weigh only 2 x a week for the first 6 months post op becuase I'd like to see a nice big losses! (And you know how I like positive reinforcement.) Now I weigh every day because it helps keep me in line. Yes, it can be self defeating if you let it get to you, but you're a wise, not-so-old, broad and know that weight fluctuations are a part of being, well, a broad! When I was eating with abandon last Christmas season I wasn't weighing because I guess I was in denial. When I did finally step on the scale and realized I had gained 16 lbs, I almost died! (Even though I knew that it wouldn't be a pretty site, because my pants were already telling me I had gained...a lot!) I'm going with the 3 lb rule now. I know I can gain 3 lbs in water weight if I eat a lot of sodium and carbs but if it gets over 3 lbs or last more than a day or so, I get busy! No cookie or sweet is worth what I've had to go through to take off the weight I had gained!
