diane,

I dont know how Leslie's doc told her but mine has it broken down like this because he does want us to get other foods in besides protein .

1/2 cup of protein already cut up how you are going to eat. for example if Im having steak I cut it up then measure it out.  But by now I know about 4oz of meat is about 1/2 cup of protein .  I get alone about 20-30 grams of protein just in my 1/2 cup of food.   I average about 80-100 grams of protein per day between my 1/2 cups and my snacks throught out the day if I snack.

1/4 cup of veggies

1/4 cup of veggies or carbs your choice .

every doc is different though :o)

Thanks for the info. I just feel like I am losing so slow, i want to make sure I am making the best choices. I take alot of meds. so I know that effects things also.
I really like my surgeon, but the nut we had during pre op was horrible. She did not like overweight people and it showed. Since surgery he has a new nut but I really haven't gotten to know her.

Both.  Personally, I think low-carb is the way to go, *but* that doesn't mean that you can eat unlimited calories in protein and fats.  Those calories still count, but they give you better satiety and don't trigger cravings like carbs do.

Many, many Americans are carb sensitive.  The low-carb approach was sort of "faddish" when it first started, but more and more medical professionals now recognize it's benefits for weight loss *and* health.  WasaBubbleButt posted links in her blog to some great videos that explain how carbs can impact our metabolism.  Check out this link:

We are all so different! Try experimenting - see how you react to different wasy of eating.

I never counted anything really, just made healthy choices of all food groups.

For me counting carbs works best because I tend to eat less calories in process of less carbs. 20-40 carbs a day is currently equaling anywhere from 1700-2100 calories a day. I lose about .5 to 1 pound a week.

I don't count calories OR carbs.  I make sure that every meal I eat is protein-weighted and I eat REAL food.  I eat lots of fruits and vegetables, plenty of whole grains.  Nothing overly processed.  Nothing with more than 5 ingredients and nothing with an ingredient that I can't pronouce or that I don't know what it looks like.

I think it depends how active you are... for exercise you need whole grains because they fuel you over a period of time

I can't eat low carb under 50 and go to the gym for 60 min I would pass out LOL

I eat a veggie at EVERY meal I think WW brainwashed me but if I eat a piece of chicken I eat green beans, or edamane, cucumbers with rice vinegar... a few examples

I don't think we need more than 60-80 grams of protein a day.. I believe we don't need anything in excess I don't need 100 grams of protein my goal as far as carbs 100 or under.. sometimes I hit 120 but I'm not worried about it. It comes from fruit, veggies, and whole grains.. with that being said I don't pound bananas or pears they have a TON of carbs but I eat them on the occasion.. same with baked potato.. and usually I just eat 1/2 and save the other 1/2 for another meal the same with a banana I only eat 1/2 that's a servings to me because they are good for you but I don't want to waste more than 1/2 my carb intake on a banana..

I think it's likely you need to mix things up.. eat different foods.. play around with your calorie intake and maybe try a new exercise our bodies get complacent after awhile.

I count both my calories AND my carbs right now. I try and get between 1000-1200calories and stay under 100g carbs each day. I am Insulin Resistant & have PCOS though... so my body is very sensitive to carbs. I work out at least 45 mins to and hour a day so I need to have some carbs or I will get light headed.

Almost all my carbs come from fruit or yogurt. I don't eat bread, pasta, rice et****asionally I will have Lobster Ravioli, but I try and limit that.

Every Dr is different, and ever body is different. If I don't measure and chart my intake I am not as successful. So it works for me to be mindful of it.

Eventually I hope to go off all the charting but I want to wait until maintenance mode... I am a LONG way off from that.

I feel like I wrote this myself, girly!!!  I am on the same plan but a bit more calories since I am on maintenance.  My carbs come from dairy, whole grains, fruits and veggies only. This is what works for me too. :)

For me I count calories, fat & protein. I love my carbs and, right now, I am losing following the plan I am on. When my weight loss slows or stops then I will have to make some changes. I know the more wieght I lose and the smaller I get I will hit a plateau or the loss will slow. Until then I am going to have my carbs. You need to figure out what works best for you and stick with that.
