alcohol and the band

There's no difference for me. It takes me just as much now as it did before surgery to get tipsy. The only thing that's changed is what I drink. I use to drink beer, wine and mixed drinks. Now I don't drink beer at all and try to stay away from too much wine because of the calories and mainly drink vodka with a sugar free mixer. I was never one to eat before, while or after I drank so thankfully I don't have that to deal with.

1 oz vodka = 65 calories
3 oz wine= 60 calories

6 of one, half dozen of another but no beer for me, one sip makes my pouch uncomfortable.

Three 6 oz glasses of wine (360 calories, 18 carbs) does about the same for me as 3 vodka waters (1 oz of vodka ea) (195 calories, 0 carbs). Also, I'm drinking more water than I am alcohol so I'm staying hydrated as well.

I'll stick to the Vodka

I was like that at first - perhaps for the first year or two. Now i can drink just as I could before surgery.

My mind works different now with alcohol.  My main concern is that it's not worth the calories.  If only I could get that mindset with food. LOL  Never had the habit of drinking and eating at the same time. However I can still drink as much as before surgery. I just don't do it.

My husband also says that I'm a cheap date now that I order an appetizer (that he shares) and have a bite or two of his meal as well. And since I don't eat and drink together - 1/2 glass of wine does really well for me!

Try a bloody mary, you get a lower calorie drink in a large mug, and celery to chew on. I can no longer drink beer bc sometimes it doesn't go down, and wine I love, but I too hate to waste the calories.

I agree with Kate.

At first the first glass or two had me feeling tipsy, but after being over 2 years post op, I can drink an entire bottle with no issues.

I love my wine...   and I was drinking a glass nightly before dinner.   I've cut that down to 2 glass per week.   It was getting in the way of my progress. LOL
