For those who have NEVER had surgery before!

Is your port on your right side?  Sometimes it is put there...my brother's is right over his belly button!  It could be that they had to move stuff around in there...just pay attention to whether it is affected by moving around, gets better or worse over the next few days and call the doc if it worsens.

I see all the time that people have surgery without ever meeting the surgeon!  I saw a PA up till 2 weeks before surgery.  I had a long visit with the surgeon at that time and we went over everything.  He showed me both bands (Lap-band and Realize) and explained the differences and allowed me to choose.  We discussed the risks, failure rate, complications, post-op recovery and that this is a life-long commitment...with no guarantee of success.  The morning of my surgery, they had an emergency that needed the OR, so my surgery was delayed a couple of hours.  The doctor came in and told me several times, what the status was, made sure I was comfortable and reassured me we would be underway shortly.  I saw him two weeks post op and will see him again for my one year post-op visit the end of May.

I know you will feel better in a few days...just hang in there!

Steph

I had some pretty major complications after surgery.  Surgery was on a Thursday and I began vomiting on Saturday.  I had to go the ER at 5 am on Sunday morning and was discharged on Tuesday.  My stomach was swollen from the procedure and just needed time to recover.  It was probably a full 2 weeks till i was feeling decent.  There was no liquid in my band at the time of surgery - just the trauma of surgery (and getting my period on Saturday) was enough to make my stomach and me miserable.

Everyone is different and recovers at different paces.  I'm amazed when people say they felt awesome right after surgery.  You're right when you say it's SURGERY.  I hope everyone gives themselves the time they need to recover and take care of themselves!

Thank you for sharing...glad you recovered well.  It is true that we are all different and that each of us can have very different outcomes at different times of our lives!
