Jump starting weightloss
OK...I've had it...I'm four years out... initially lost 85 lbs, have gained back 25 lbs...none of my small clothes (12-14 pants) fit. I'm buying size 18-20 size again. I'm beyond frustrated and upset. I've got to do something. I walk 1 1/2 miles daily at a pretty good clip. I'm at about 1400 calories daily...I'm still gaining....I'm freaking out to be truthful. I work two jobs so there is no more time for more exercise. So today I've decided to start once again...my band seems to have reasonable fill. I recently had an unfill and the tech told me I should start losing again...wrong....I'm wondering what your methods are for jumpstarting a weight loss after making wrong choices for at least a year. I haven't been on this board for more than a year, and I've forgotten what all I need to do to get back on track...real practical things, please, the philosophy I know ...just not doing. You do tend to forget a routine...when you don't do it regularily. I'm afraid I won't be able to get back my motivation, and that my metabolism is totally screwed up. I'm wondering if I will ever EVER be a successful lapbander.
Logging your food might help...sparkpeople.com has a mobile app that is really easy to use and it is free...that way you can see where your issue might be...too much carbs or fat??? Also, if you can measure your food to ensure your portions aren't creeping up, that will help.
Once you identify your problem, the solution should be pretty cut and dry...reduce fat, carbs or calories or all three...if you can get down to 1100 calories per day, you should lose a pound per week if you work off an extra 100 calories per day.
Good luck and hang in there!

Ok no time for more exercise but exercise harder. I'm told that your body learns to adapt to your routine, so no matter that you are spending 30 minutes walking at the same speed/incline, your body, after a number of months(?) no longer expends the same effort (calories) to perform the same task. If you remember when you first started it was a struggle...now I'm sure all is fine. You need to intensify your workout for the same effect you got in the beginning. I know what a pain. What I started to do was interval training. I walk for 3 minutes and jog for a minute..I do this the whole time I'm working out...except for the cool down. This is how i got past my plateau. I don't mess around with my calorie intake because I don't want to keep lowering it. You should also consider working in weight lifting to your daily routine...here's a great article about the benefits of weight lifting and it will help you with your plateau and future plateaus. http://health.yahoo.net/rodale/WH/lose-your-fear-of-lifting

Don't lose hope. You lost weight before with your band and you can do it again. You said it yourself that you have been making wrong choices for a year now. Go back to basics.
Writing down everything that goes in your mouth is a start. Be honest with yourself too. Every bite counts! Then get back to eating your protein first and measure it out. Then eat some fruit or veggies. Maybe cut out your carbs for awhile and when you go back to them make sure they are complex ones. No white flour stuff and no sugar. Those are probably all things you did in the beginning to lose your 85 lbs. Don't allow yourself to go right back up that scale. You're nipping it now and that's great. Come here often for support too. We're all on your side!! Let us know how you're doing too!

All the posts have been great advice...I lost my motivation for a while too, and just got refocused. I went online and printed out weekly food diary sheets from Inspiring Nutrion to help me watch my calories, water, and exercise for each day (I swore those off pieces of paper off 2 years ago...had to eat those words). Started measuring food again (holy cow...that's 1/4 of a cup). My portions had pretty much doubled and I had no clue. I went way back to all the basics. Had gotten in a rutt with my exercise, doing the same ole same ole, and I know you have to keep your body guessing if you want to keep losing, so now I'm mixing up my routine...going to the gym a day or two, walking a day or two, and then doing dvd workouts a day or two. Hang in there...we all get frustrated and lose focus, but getting back on track before you get back to the starting line is the most important thing! Good Luck

My nutritionist suggested drinking protein shakes for two meals and then eating a healthy diet for the third meal. (I do shakes breakfast and dinner most days with a healthy lunch). She suggests doing that for a week.
I hope that helps.
