Goodbye Band

Well a week from today my crap band is coming out! I have mixed emotions about it :-/ My insurance is ending in a few weeks though so I had to make a quick decision. I currently have a flipped port and possible port leak or something else going on. I have had my band for almost 5 years.

I initially lost 100 pounds in the first 2 years, but have gained back 65 of that. How did I lose it? Well, it felt like forced bulemia. I didn't complain though... I was losing (yeah I know thats effed up) After about 2 years of constant puking, I decided to get an unfill. I gradually gained back about 35 over the next two years. I ate like a normal person again, quit puking every meal up, went through a divorce, and quit exercising.

I started taking Depo in Oct and quickly put on another 20 pounds. Ugh I quit that last week and already feel better.

I am not revising to another surgery. For one, I dont have that kind of time before my insurance runs out and I am not okay with the idea of my stomach being cut on, removed, etc. Not enough very long term studies on the effects of that.

So pray for me in this process. I have been obese since I was 6. I hope I can make better choices and be strict with my exercise. (I am already doing better on that).

Sorry you had such a bad time. Being so tight for so long must have been awful.

Best wishes for the future.  Kate

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Wow I am so sorry to hear of your experience. I am a bypass patient who had a successful bypass but through emotional stress had probs with transfer addiction and due to a tragic event gained back 80 lbs. Decided to check into band over bypass which surgeon said would be a good option since my prob was that the stoma had stretched so it would help provide restriction. Well I have also been obese basically all my life (age 5 currently 47) and my life was very unhappy - childhood was horrible because of other kids cruelty towards me. God & church were my salvation and really the only true friends I had. Life is very cruel to those with food addiction as it is such a visible disease. Am doing good so far albeit a really emotionally stressful day...i finished Thurs off with a sleeve of thin mint cookies and began today, Friday, with the other sleeve about 1/2 hr ago. I am so very disgusted with myself but from this time forward I can work on regaining control & get right back on track AND NOT bring any more boxes of cookies into my house as I have no control over this head of mine. Ugh sorry to gripe on your share but when I saw your age @ time of obesity beginning and then my wonderful binge, I felt the need to not only pitch in my 2 cents worth but to share. Anyway, maybe tthis time of no insurance (not sure of your cir****tances) it will give you a chance to visit the boards on this site to determine if you feel you would eventually like to go another route when & if insurance might again be available to you. I wish you luck in your journey ahead.

P.s. I do have probs still with dumping syndrome & sugar sensitivity from the bypass so you can imagine how I am feeling right about now emotionally AND physically not well...back to bed to try & sleep it off and begin this day fresh in a few hours.

I'm sorry you had such an awful experience with your band.  Constant puking had to be terrible.  I've only had it happen 4 times in 20 months, so I can't imagine how terrible that would be.

Good luck to you,
Kristi

I know how you feel........I had a lot of problems with my first placement of my band.  The surgery to re-position it has made all the difference in the world, when it comes to PBing, etc.  I also went through major life changes with separating from my husband and losing my house.....my head wasn't in the game even though my band was being nicer to me.

I hope that you stick around and get support from us.  We know what you are going through!  Good luck!!

Hugs! So sorry to hear about yet ANOTHER band FAILING! :-(

It very much saddens me that you have been obese since such a young age, and after putting all your hopes and dreams into the band that it has failed you! My dreams were trashed too as far as the band working. :-(
