 What does everyone take?

I had sinus surgery 15 yrs ago and have had a routine ever since of nasal saline rinses and Mucinex D at the first sign of a cold/sinus infection.  This has worked pretty well.  I haven't had to deal with this post lapband until now.  My Mucinnex D pills (guafasin/psudoephrine) are pretty big ..I have been breaking them into three pieces to take them, but they still go down rough and taste nasty.  I wondered whateveryone else takes.  I'm thinking maybe the reg sudafed (small tabs) and liquid guafasin.

??

help?

Yes guaifenesin is the ingredient to look for in a cough syrup that acts as a expectorant that loosens phlegm. If you want to dry out your sinuses then liquid diphenhydramine(benadryl) works great. And if you want a decongestant, then sudafed works. Robitussin C is great for expectorant and sinus decongestant in one syrup. Know that benadrly is great for drying out your sinuses, but makes most people drowsy. Also flushing your nose 2-3 times daily with a warm sal****er flush works wonders. Here are the directions for a great nasal flush:

To make your own saline, mix the following in a clean container:

  • ½ to 1 teaspoon non-iodized salt (such as pickling or canning salt)
  • Pinch of baking soda (to prevent burning – can increase the amount as needed)
  • 1 cup of warm water (filtered or previously boiled water)

Directions: Place the above mixture in a reusable sinus rinse bottle or draw up into a nasal bulb syringe. The most convenient way to perform a sinus rinse is in the shower, but may also be performed over a sink.

Post lap band my surgeon advised me to avoid mucinex D because it is time released and I should take no time released meds. Now I ususally take sudafed at first sign of a cold and drink lots of water. My surgeon says it is very important to avoid post nasal drip. Gross, but it can fill up your pouch - ick!

Do they make the redi-tabs with the decongestant in them also??? I only see the ones with just the antihistamine.

I was sick for a wk. so was on the Mucinex. Your right. BIG and NASTY! :-( I just did it once a day instead of twice and did more frequent saline rinses.
