hello everyone.  I had surgery yesterday.  holy crap, this gas crap is horrible...my goodness, i feel like my entire chest is going to explode...I cant sleep in the bed, feels like the gas pressure is sufficating me.  Other then that, I haven't taken pain meds since I left the hospital yesterday.  I'm really not in a lot of pain, just the gas.  I am trying to walk/sway/change positions to help w/ the gas...wheewww, man, never thought it would be like this though...wowzer!!!!  Any advice would be great!!!!

I totally remember that! I slept best on my side with my shoulder dug into the bed because my pain was worst up in my shoulder. I felt like I walked a million miles those first two weeks just to make the gas move! Some of the other bandsters suggested Gas X and I tried that, not sure if it really helped tho. The first few days are definitely the worst, but the gas will hang around a while. Hang in there and keep moving! Liquid diet and moving = weight loss :)

Don't be a hero.  Take the pain pills.  While it won't dissipate the gas any faster it will help with some of the pain.  At least take them to sleep.  I found the recliner the best place to sleep for the first 2 nights.

Hang in there!  It will go away!

Oh believe me, I'm not a hero!  I just dont feel like I'm in pain enough to take meds.  Plus I get very very sick when I take the pain meds w/ nothing in my stomach.  I found that out yesterday the hard way.  The nurse made me take the liquid percocet and I got sick 3 times lastnight, voliently sick. it wasn't fun, esp being fresh post op.  I will sleep in the recliner until I don't need to anymore....the worst part was/is the gas and headache.  Hot tea seems to help...I mean not a lot and maybe I am imagining things, but it seems very soothing....

Glad to know you're on the mend.  If possible, stay off your pain meds as they'll only wreak havoc on your bowels long term and keep moving.  I actually proppped myself up on a few pillows the first few nights when the gas pain was severe.  It doesn't last more than a couple of days so hang in there!  Good luck.
