injured and gaining weight
About 9 months ago I was diagnosed with a groin muscle strain. The pain is much better than it originally was but not gone by any means. I was originally told by the doctor I saw in prompt care that it would take several months to heal so I was trying to be patient. Needless to say I finally had enough of being patient and went back to my primary DR. and was told they thought I had a labral tear in my hip joint.....so I'm off to the orthopedic DR. tomorrow. From the research I've done online it can be a surgical repair if it doesn't heal on it's own so we will see what the Dr. thinks. But at any rate over the past 9 months of being unable to exercise as I had become used to and letting my diet go to hell I had gained about 20 pounds back. Over the last week I have been trying to get back on track with the diet and I did attempt to use the exercise bike but after 14 minutes had to stop due to the pain in my hip joint. I have managed to lose 5 pounds this last week but without being able to really exercise I'm unsure how much I can really expect to lose. It is frustrating to have "wasted" the past 9 months with gaining so much weight and more frustrating wondering how much longer before this injury will be resolved. I thought about going back for a fill but I'm nervous to do that as before the injury I was doing well with my fill and on some days after a couple bites I can't eat anymore and I'm afraid of getting overfilled and needing a big unfill at this point.......Thanks to all for listening to my long rant
You have to make a choice to not gain anymore weight. If you can't walk, sit in a firm chair and do upper body exercises with hand weights. Don't let stress or depression get the best of you, i.e., don't give in to emotional eating. You can still lose weight by controlling your food choices and intake. Boredom is your worst enemy, so think of things that you can do to occupy your time while idle. Try puzzles, reading, knitting, crafting, etc. to distract you from food. Also, try journaling. This would be a great time to get in touch with your feelings! When you have the impulse to eat, (but know that you're not really hungry becuase you had your protein rich meal already), sit quietly, without distraction and write down what you're feeling. Is it frustration, anger, fear, stress, sadness, etc., etc.? Writing about what the real source of my desire to eat really helps me. Remove all the junk food from your house and don't let anyone enable you by trying to comfort you with offerings of food.
I gained almost 20 lbs over the holidays with no major injury. It happens! We must develop new ways to cope with things that get to us. I've lost 16 of the 20 lbs but it's taken getting back to basics and stopping the sweets.
You can do this, and we're here if you need us!
Hang in there and I pray you don't require surgery.

I feel you!! I broke my back nearly a year ago and have gained... gulp... almost 40 pounds of the 100 I originally lost!!!! UGH!! I haven't been on this site in months, and not regularly for a couple of years, but I'm back on for the same reason you're describing. I know my fill is not right at this point though, I just need to find a doctor who will take me (I moved since my last fill). All I agree with the post about working through boredom and I think the journaling idea when we feel emotional food cravings is a good one. Do you have a YMCA or other gym with a pool near you? I would imagine that would be good physical therapy for you in addition to great exercise.
Best wishes to you! You're not alone!
