For the love of God, researchers!!!!
Can one of you get a grant or something to do a study on long-terms bandsters that involves more than a f*cking HANDFUL of people?? I'm sick or reading "Debbie Downer" reports about how much the band sucks based on 200 patients and now 80-something patients.
WTF? With all the hundreds of thousands of bands installed worldwide, THIS is what people are supposed to base their research on? For Christ's sake, we've got more than 80 people in this ******g FORUM!!
Over 350000 Lap-Band® Systems have been sold worldwide
over 400000Lap-Bands in use worldwide
Since its clinical introduction in 1993, more than 450000 LAP-BAND procedures have been performed worldwide.
Number of LAP-BAND® Systems sold worldwide as of 2009: Over 500000
2011 (January) - 650,000 LAP-BAND® System devices sold worldwide

I would love to see some updated statistic based on a larger patient group.

I know of a doc in washington thats been tracking their patients long term. They wanted to keep their patient group so badly that they are now giving those that wanted to leave- FREE fills just to keep them in the statistics group.
I should call them and see if they have anything yet.

Right on, Bette! Every time one of these "reports" or "studies" is posted as the benchmark for making a life-changing decision, is really chaps my *ss. I was cruising the Main* board yesterday, just for *hits and giggles and came across the 80+ person "study" from what, 1994-2001...
Of course, the usual suspects are there just drinking the "koolaid"...
For any newbies reading this...when you do research look at the dates of the studies and the number of people studied and read the whole thing...some people are known for posting just bits and pieces that support their personal opinion, so beware!
*had the wrong board but the poster is a DS'r

Here are studies of THOUSANDS!
Please note (as my doc pointed out) that the first set all deal with bands implanted using the older perigastric technique which had a HIGHER complication rate than the pars flaccida which is now used. I do not know the country of origin of the studies, neither have I read them myself. I was given a warning that the journal in which they appear is strictly copyright and so I am not publishing that on the net! But if anyone wants to know, PM me. I am not clear on copyright law and don't want to fall foul of it!
Clearly the results are not consistent!
