Okay so my consultation with my surgeon is coming up In a week and a half. How should I prepare for this? What will happen in this consult? What if hes says that I'm not prepared? What questions should I ask? Should I bring my binder full of notes and research? I really want the go ahead so how should I handle this to get the approval needed?

I think that you should enter this meeting prepared. You must have ?s to ask and remember, you are interviewing this Dr just as he is you! You will be seeing alot of each other in the future and do not want to be with someone who isn't supportive.

Simply put, you will show them your insurance card and hopefully they will let you know within a few weeks what coverage you have for wls. You will be asked how many diets that you have tried in your life, if you are on any meds, if have problems sleeping or sleep too much, what you expect from this procedure, etc. I know this is a frequently asked question so I am sure you can find other posts with answers to your questions.

Best of luck in your journey!

Keep a notebook close by and whenever you think of a question write it down. Go through your binder and write down questions you have from what you have read. I went in with a long list of questions whise he was more than happy to answer. I too was nervous and a little intimidated. But it went great. I know you want it all to go perfectly because you have waited so long for that day. best of luck. You will do fine.

I agreed with everyone else. I had mine March 9th and it went fine. I  asked a bunch of questions. Even had a note book with questions that I might forget. I had certain things that had to be done before I even got to see the surgeon. Seminar, 6 month dr. supervised wls program (insurance wanted that done), a bunch of paper work filled out, and an assessment done (dietician, therapist, bariatric nurse). I still have to see a couple of dr. and pre-surgery test done before I have the surgery. I know its alot to take in. Some ppl probably didn't have to do what I did. I think everything will be fine. Good Luck!!!!
The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time...

I am nervous and intimidated. This program basically let's you meet with the surgeon first and then if they decide if you are ready or not they either send u back to do more research or schedule your date. I really want him to schedule me because I've done so much searching I feel like a Internet engine search with a overload of info! You know that bing commercial! Lol smh! Anywho! What are some questions I need to ask??

My surgeon's process is similar to what you're describing.  I went in very calm, explained what I was looking for, what my concerns were, and what challenges I'd faced with my weight.  He's done about 2000 band ops and heard everything, but listened to everything I had to say, answered all my questions and sent a letter of medical necessity to my insurance same day.  The manner in which he conducted the consultation sold me on choosing him.

It really is an interview of the surgeon as much as it is them evaluating you.  Just remember to ask him questions about his/her own experience DOING the surgery.  My first surgeon consult, it was very telling to listen to the way he spoke about the surgery and aftercare. He actually said to me "We don't care what band you choose, we'll install whatever".. really?!  After that I started asking around and found out that particular surgeon didn't offer any substantial aftercare, nor even check in with you after surgery - his nurses did that!  Not the surgeon for me.
