By post-op, do you mean immediately after surgery, while healing? Or after that? I'll answer both!

First of all, we all have different experiences. These are just mine!

Post-op, I was so absolutely certain that this was going to work for me that a 6 week very limited (liquids and then soft) diet just flew by.  The same as with any diet for me - the first month or so was never the problem,. it was long term i couldn't do it. So i made sure i ate foods i liked and it wsan't a problem.

Long term, I didn't have a plan. i just ate small amounts of healthy food.

Food tastes no different although over the years of better eating, my tastes have changed, for example, I no longer enjoy fried foods.

I almost never get physical hunger, but no surgery can stop head hunger.

I mean immediately after!

I was reading on it and it seems very technical and difficult

Mine wasn't! It is all about the texture and consistency of foods. Can't remember exactly but mine was something like:-

2 days clear liquids (water consistency)
3 or 4 days full liquids (creamy soup consistency)
couple of weeks purees (thick sauce consistency, would drop (slowly) off a spoon)
on to soft foods ( cut easily with the side of a fork)

Within that, any foods are OK (although you obvisouly don't want to make totally high calorie choices.

I am actually finishing up my first week with the post-op diet. The first few days I was hardly hungry and I had to make myself get in enough liquids. I think the liquid diet prior to surgery was harder than it is now. I have lost 18 lbs since i started the pre-op diet, and I know that I made the right decision. It's hard when I see other people eat, but I also know that if I cheat, I could hurt myself, and miss more days from work. My doctor has me on a full liquid diet right now whi*****ludes strained cream soups, protein shakes (2-3 a day), lots of water, 100% diluted fruit and veggie juice, and decaf hot tea/coffee. The soup fills me up, but I can only eat about 2 ounces. I have learned that when I'm full, I will get what feels like a hiccup, and I know that is my cue to stop. I made sure that I had nothing but what was on the diet in my house, so I would not fail.

Good luck!
