It is very unusual to get rebanded. It only happens if the first band slips or is faulty.

The differences between the bands are not that great and it is usually down to the doc's preference. We don't know the difference once they are inside us. They basically work exactly the same way.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Do you mean pre-op?  That you change your mind from having a Lap Band to having a Realize Band?

If so, they are like 'coke vs pepsi' --- pretty darn close to each other.

My doc had samples of both in his office, and I was able to touch/feel them both.
I chose Realize because I thought it was a little more pliable --- and I like that the port has a 'receiver' that gets stitched down -- and the port clamps into it.  So, it is very, very rare to have a port 'flip' with a Realize band.

I was re-banded after a band slip, and got the Realize Band in Feb 2011; personally, I don't know there is a difference. Kind of like "do I get Nike sneaks, or Reeboks". My surgeon never indicated that this band was anything different; hope this helps
