acid or gas pain?
Hi! I just had my surgery on the 17th .... I have been having horrible gas pain....or at least that's what I think it is...I've been walking like crazy trying to relieve as much gas as possible! My mom went with me when I had my surgery and she said all the other girls got anti-acid pills..... my quesiton for you is: did you take anti-acid pills afer your surgery? and is some of the pain I'm having possibly caused by acid instead of gas?
And one more question.... I know I probably shouldn't weigh myself but I weighed today and I haven' t lost a single ounce and I've been on clear liquids for 5 days now.... is this normal? and if so, why haven't I lost any yet?
-Thanks in advance,
Katie

Hey, I just had surgery with Dr. Rodriguez yesterday. I also have really bad gas pain, I don't have the hiccups bad but when I burp it is terrible. I would try some Gas-Ex, not the pill form but the melt on your tongue breath mint strip kind. My brother just brought me some and I think it is working a little. Good luck and let me know when the gas stops so I know what to expect. Thanks.
Gas pain is totally normal. You may even feel it a referred pain in your left shoulder! Take OTC gas meds and a heating pad on teyh shoudler feels good!
Hiccoughs (sorry, I'm a Brit!!) are caused by the diaphragm going into spasm and pressure of gas and or swelling from the surgery can press on the diaphragm.
Peculiar weight loss in the first week or days is also normal. The extremes I have seen after 5 years on here range from 20lbs in the first week (loss) to a gain of 6lbs!

My surgeon said I would have no more GERD, but after my first fill, I began to have that old familiar burning and tightness and finally I could no longer swallow water. I saw the doctor and he removed 1 cc. Still said it is not GERD. I started back my Aciphex about four days ago, and I am better already. Some people have told me the band makes the reflux worse. Now I believe them.

I actually gained 14 pounds from the day before surgery to the day after I came home. ( I had to have 2 surgeries on the same day, long story)
Right now is a time for healing and not so much for losing. It will happen, you will lose weight. Just believe! Follow your surgeon's diet plan to let your band heal.
