Gas pain? Help!
For pretty much all of today, I have had a pain in the middle of my shoulders/back of the rib cage that reminds me of the gas pain that I had while recovering from my surgery. Every now and then I feel like I need to burp. I've tried chewable gasX pills, but no luck. I've barely been able to eat because it gets worse when I try. I also haven't been able to drink my water today because that has been giving me the same feeling. Anyone else experience this while not recovering from surgery?
Hi! I just had my surgery on the 17th and when I saw your post I thought maybe you could help me out... I have been having horrible gas pain....or at least that's what I think it is..... my mom went with me when I had my surgery and she said all the other girls got anti-acid pills..... my quesiton for you is: did you take anti-acid pills afer your surgery? and is some of the pain I'm having possibly caused by acid instead of gas?
I only used the GasX chewables and they helped me. My understanding of the gas pain after surgery is that the surgeon pumps some air into your stomach to make the manuevering easier, but not all of the aire gets out, so it kind of 'floats' around your body. My pain was in between my shoulder blades. I swear, that hurt more than my incisions or stomach area! I don't think that the antacids will really help if gas is what's causing your pain. I also used a heating pad and that helped a lot. Make sure that you are getting up and walking around as much as possible because that helps get the gas out of your system.
On a side note, I saw my surgeon today and he removed 1cc of saline. That pretty much immediately solved the problem for me. i drank two cups of water while he was there and came home and had more water then some soup and no problems. He said that I probably ate something that irritated my stomach or got stuck in the opening and that caused my stomach to swell which, of course, irritated the band. He said that I might be too loose in a week or so when the swelling goes down completely, but his office is really good about getting you inwhenever needed.
