Not all Brown Rice is *cooked* equally!

So I've been incorporating Brown Rice into my on a regular basis - at least 2x week as a healthy whole grain.  I love adding some extra virgin olive oil and little sea salt to it.  Anyway, I have no issues with the long cooking rice (40min) then I tried the microwave version where you put it in a cassarole with water and cook for 12 min.  I need to ensure its very mushy tho.  So thats been going well.  Soooo I decided to try the "Uncle Bens" 90 sec microwave right in the bag version - OMG - I have puked 3x times so far and still in pain!  Could not even eat more than 2 bites of my "saturday" steak/filet mignon.  So being starving, I opted for my Skinny Cow 150 cal single serve ice cream cup and can't keep that down.  I'm starving - I'm Thirsty and I'm Pain and I HATE UNCLE BEN!!!

I tried some of the same microwave kind way before I had surgery, and it wasn't good at all. I don't eat rice often, but when I do, it is the white rice. I hope you feel better soon.

Yeah, I'm not banded yet but we eat brown rice all the time. The instant kind is not something I would recommend to anyone. Yuck. It's like eating little bits of sticks, no matter how long you let it sit. I can't imagine getting that stuck in your band - ouch!

Thanks for the heads up. I do brown rice since I got the band. I will try to avoid the Uncle Bens brand.

Just a suggestion but I cook my rice first then add to the casserole and it usuallky comes out nice and moist and mushy.

Sounds like a good idea but I never have cassaroles. I have chicken breast or fish or my saturday steak with either brown rice, baby food sweet potatoes or spinach or broccoli.  Pretty boring I know - but it takes the stress out of wondering what to cook for dinner. Luckily for me I love all kinds of fish and so does my family.  The eat what I eat, except they have bread with dinner and white potatoes.

And its not the Uncle Ben's thats bad, its the 90 sec Uncle Bens thats bad!

The one time I tried brown rice...it was the 90-second one.  No bueno! Maybe that's why I didn't tolerate it?  Hmmm...now that I am further out, I think I will try the "long cook" version until its mushy. It hurt so bad that time though, I'm going to proceed with caution. :)  Thanks!
