Do you get emotional after surgery?
On Saturday I had to have emergency surgery for a hernia and have been home recovering this week. Today I'm an emotional wreck. I've been crying at everything and my emotions are completely out of wack. When I'm not crying, I get angry really quickly. I finally kenneled my poor dogs because I was getting angry at them for doing things that are just normal dog behaviors.
So... I'm curious - does anyone else go through this? I've had surgeries before and never had this emotional outburst before.

Yes yes yes and YES!!! I get horribly anxious prior to surgery and post surgery if ANYTHING goes wrong, or I get frustrated, I am a wreck!
I am not sure why it happens to me. I am not a big cry baby and it usually takes a lot to make me react. I've wondered if it has to do with all of the medications or anesthesia, if it messes with my chemistry or if it's because I have zero pain tolerance. (stubbed toes can bring me to my knees)
Hang in there, you will feel better soon!

Hello
I didn't get emotional after surgery but I was wondering if you lost a lot of weight during pre-op and post-op. The reason I ask is because I read that there are extra stores of hormones in our fat and as we lose weight the hormones are released back into our system. The extra dose of hormones can cause mood swings (just like when we are preganant) and heavier periods and other fun stuff. It could be the reason you are feeling emotional...it's so much fun to be women...hahaha

CMA, I didn't know that. That would explain why on the 2 wk pre-op diet I feel like I just had a kid, as far as emontions go...My goodness, I cried at work today which is very much unlike me. That is very interesting...I see a lot of your comments on here, you are like a wealth of knowledge!!! LOL.....Thank you!!!

It happens to me. For me it is the effects of the anesthesia. After my band I was all over the place. I had been forewarned so I knew it would be a posibility and when it hit I was able to tell myself what was happening, but it still wasn't easy. There were a few days my hubby wondered if he would come out alive. Good luck with this and remember that this is not real and will pass. Sue

Mrs. Smith,
I'm so sorry to hear about your emergency surgery. Perfectly normal to be emotional after surgery, any surgery. And especially if it wasn't a planned surgery.
I'm sure the pups were feeling your pain and were concerned about you. I know after my lap band surgery Jack and Gracie wanted to be lap dogs, but I didn't need that at the time! haha
PM me if you need to "talk".
Hugs,
Kristi
