Great post Jenny!  It is so true that insurance will pay for rehab, smoking cessation and other substance abuse issues, but is so backwards in regarding WLS as cosmetic and not medically necessary!  Sure, some insurance pay, but a great many still do not, and employers continue to exclude it in benefits packages.

Good point. And not only do they pay............BUT THEY DON'T MAKE THE DRUNKS AND JUNKIES WAIT 6 MOS. TO GET HELP FOR THEIR TREATMENT!!!

I know right!!!  "You aren't enough of a drunk yet.  Please go drink yourself under the table every day for the next six months, and when your blood-alcohol level is a steady .25, come see me."  HAAHAAAA

Ironic isn't it!? Now I am all for ppl getting help that need it, AND WANT IT............but a large  majority of alcoholic's and drug addicts that go into rehab just do it b/c it is court ordered or do it, or b/c it looks better on them when they go to court for a related offense. THEY DON'T EVEN WANT TO BE THERE AND GET THE HELP!

Now on the other hand.............you have all of us. Desperate to get help for our health condition..............and told go on a diet for 6 mos. and go get a psych eval...........then MAYBE insurance will pay for it...............IF the policy doesn't change during the 6 mos. they make ppl wait!

 I am so grateful my insurance paid for my wls.  And Al Roker rocks!!!

Someone wise once said Food Addiction is different from other addictions because with Food addiction, you have to take the tiger out of the cage a few times a day...on a leash no less!
