BCBS 6 month weight loss program - diabetes class count?
My husband's insurance (BCBS of IL) was requiring 3 months of a weight loss program in a 24 month period, up until March 15 when the plan changed. Argh. Now it's 6 months. He participated in a thorough diabetes program for 3 months last fall every week -- it was a 3 hour program every week --- included nutrition education by a dietician, exercise instruction, an actual 1 hour workout at a huge gym each week, a personal trainer, one-on-one food log reviews with the dietician, behavior change, etc. Does anyone think this would stand a chance as counting toward the BCBS IL weight loss program?
It's probably best if you ask your insurance company. I think that most insurance company's guidlines are that- you have to be weighed in on a monthly basis, it has to be charted correctly, and it has to be doctor supervised. Now that might not be all companies but most of them have to be done this way. If he meets these requirements then I would say he has a good chance of the insurance accepting that as his 6 month doctor supervised diet.
I have BCBSIL and when I started my journey they wanted 6 mos of supervised diet. Did that and they didn't like the way my dr. did it. GRR. Well, in July of 2009, when I was going to start again, they switched to 3 months supervised. Have they then, changed it again? That seems pretty unreasonable, considering some of the the insurance companies have lowered the BMI requirements to help facilitate wt. loss surgery. I would call the company and ask them why they changed. The 3 month diabetes program may work, in that it is supervised and he prbly lost some wt on it. Good luck!
