Any Regrets?

Hi, I am a newbie, and am considering lap band.  I have been doing a lot of research, and at times I feel this is for me, then others I quite frankly become afraid. I am wondering if anyone has regretted doing it, and if so why.  Also, if anyone has no regrets, I'd love to hear from you too.
Thanks

My only regret is that I didn't pursue this years earlier.

But then again, my head might not have been in the right place earlier.  We're ready when we're ready.  :)

At the beginning, I'd sometimes have thoughts that maybe I should've chosen a different surgery, but I think everyone goes through that to some degree.  I'm really happy with what I've achieved and so is my husband and family.

I might never be "thin", but that was never my goal.  My goals were to be healthier and not have to wear plus size clothes.  I'm there now (most of the time.. a few 1x's are still needed depending on the maker).  I'm still working on losing, but if I NEVER lose another pound, I'm satisfied.  And I will lose more, it's just taking more work (and patience!!) now that I'm smaller.

It's very normal to be afraid and to second guess yourself.  Glad you are researching.  There is no one perfect WLS, but for those who don't want to drastically alter their insides by rerouting or removing, the band is the way to go.

You will have to work at it, but it's not been all that hard for me.  Everyone's experience is different though and you will have some post about bad they think the band is.  And their pov is also valid.

Hope this helps you some.

I definatly regret my decision to get the band. Had I known then what I know now I NEVER would have gotten it! I would have done RNY or VSG. I have now wasted $15,000 on this POS that doesn't work! It has been about 16 mos. and I have had 16 fills. NO "sweet spot". And as I have sense found out.........ppl not reaching their "sweet spot" is very common! This is one thing most Drs. do NOT tell patients BEFORE they get the band! Kind of an important detail! Don't ya think?!?!!

RNY with
Maria makes the point here that is very important, if you are self pay there are a lot of maintenence costs and thats if everything goes well. If there are any problems they can be very costly. As much as I love my band I would tell anyone who is self pay to look into the other options.

Agreed on the money thing....my insurance no longer covers my band and it has been issues coming up with the money for maintaining it.... but still...knowing that if something goes wrong I have the chance to fix it without starting over from scratch...worth it :)
I am a work in progress...perhaps never completed or perfected; but forever working to change for the better...

I'm a year out on my band.  I have learned you need to follow your diet and exercise and it will work for you.  There is no sweet spot.  If you feel full on 1 cup of food then you are at the right spot.  Anything over you would need a fill.  Anything under and you might have to much of a fill.  You have to listen to your band.  It is a tool not the magic solution as some people think.  The hardest part for me is listening.  I have learned to chew chew chew chew my food.  All wls has it's positive and negatives. They all come with there own set of rules. Please keep researching.  I just know the band is for me.  There is a book (the bandwagon) advertised at the top of this forum.  I just got it and found it very useful.  Good Luck in which ever one you chose.

I don't think ANYTHING will ever be right for EVERYONE. But my only regret is that I waited so long to have it. I would have loved to have more life to enjoy!

No regrets at all, except like everyone else I wish I'd done it much sooner. It is a scary decision but well worth it! I've lost almost 3 stone since having mine last Oct & I can't tell you how good I feel!!!

No regrets so far, but I am also still freshly banded.  Good luck with whatever decision you make!
