2 days post op!

Hey guys! It's nice to be back on the board. I'm two days out from my surgery on 3/15 and I feel ok. I was pre-filled with 4ccs in a 10cc band and I'm down 6lbs since surgery.

Is it normal to be filled before 6 weeks out? Also, I have this weird feeling that I can't burp... as if the air gets trapped and it's kind of painful. Has anyone had experience with this?

Thanks!

hey nicole! i was banded last week and had a lot of that "can't burp" feeling but it gradually went away. i'm guessing it was just gas from the surgery. give it time.

as for the fill, i didn't get any at the time of surgery but i'll have my first one on april 6, which is just shy of four weeks. seems every surgeon has their own "best practices" as far as when/how much to fill.

good luck!

I got 3ccs prefilled also. It perfectly normal. Im 4 weeks post op and my doctor said he always ads a little. 50% of the time he gets a good fill in where you wouldnt need an additional fill for awhile. Some people dont need a fill at all..... Me personally. I think I may need a smidge more as i start to get hungry after about 3-4 hours.

Luckily I did good on the gas pain... but 2 friends that I have have said your gonna get pains in places you never thought possible. I had one under my collar bone that hurt like hell for a few minutes then passed.

I'm 21 days post op today!  Imma soft/mushy fan today w. no complications so far!  Your burping thing is probably just surgery gas moving around in your body.

Had my 3 week check up w my surgeon yesterday.  Going back for my first fill in 2 weeks.  Don't know how many cc's I have at present, but dr. said that when placing the band during surgery, it is full, then they let it drain out, so that fluids will go thru easier during recovery.  My first fill will be done at the hospital where they do it under some sort of medical equip (I don't recall the name) that helps them see the band and the port so they can tell exactly how much is in there.   Then they have me drink to see how fast it is moving thru the band.  Once all that is evaluated, then he determines how much fill I need.  After this initial fill, all other fills will be done in the clinic.

You could probably ask 10 patients how their dr. approches first fills, and you would get 10 different answers.  Dr.'s are like fingerprints....no two are alike.

Thanks guys! I feel better knowing that it might be gas. I'm excited to start eating foods with substance tomorrow. Pureed soups, yogurts, puddings, etc...

Interesting on what different doctors do when it comes to fills.

My program prescribed only protein shakes, fluids and strained soups first three weeks. If it could pass through a wire strainer, I could eat it.  not much but soups, very thin.   could only eat about 1/2 cup soup/broth and was full.  weird. never thought i'd feel full on so little.  Make sure you meet your protein goal, this will help with the healing process.  I had no problems at all.  Good luck, you'll do great.

Yup, gas! I had my surgery March 1st, it goes away. It's weird because all I do know is burp!  Have you had any shoulder pain? I coudn't believe that was gas too! Hope you are recovering nicely!
