I had my first fill two days ago and worried that I have no restriction this morning I at a whole egg white omelet. So I called my doctor and was told I can come in two weeks from now instead of four. Has anyone else have this issue?Sould i feel the fill yet? has anyone asked for their second fill earlier than expected (4-6 week)? let me know, Thanks!

HI!  I would give it another week or so. Sometimes it takes a couple of weeks for a fill to "kick-in".
And just because you CAN eat more doesn't mean you should eat more, especially at this early stage.  For my first two fills, I could feel a difference right away but it took two weeks for my third fill to kick in.

You don't want to be what my doc calls a "fill-a-holic", chasing after that elusive mythical sweet spot.  For me, I found the green zone which means I eat the meal the size of a kids "happy meal" and I'm satisified.  I eat my protein first then the sides if I still have room, but all of it no more than a cup of food per meal.   Don't forget the water either and No NO NOOO drinking with meals.

Hope this helps :)

I never heard of that word fill a holic before one of the girls in support group said she got called that she was always begging for fills, never did any of the work herself , and when she could eat a bite over a cup of food she wanted a fill .

She said well I never got that full feeling well duh you are not suppose to get that with the band you are suppose to be satisfied that is all.  I think alot of people get them two words mixed up sometimes.

Sometimes Jolena, I think people get so worried about this sweet spot and restriction that they lose focus of the entier purpose of the band . I know several people like that in my support group meeting.

Bandme this has nothing to do with your question so gosh please dont take it that way lol.  I was thinking about all them people in my support group wondering why they even bothered to get the band . They just amaze me sometimes lol

what you ate does that equal a whole cup of food ? I never made one before so I dont know ?

My doc is so strict about one cup rules .  If you cant eat a whole cup of food per meal he will take fluid out of you because he wants you to get your food in plus you need the nutrients also for your body and to be healthy .

And vice versa if you can eat more then one cup he will give you a fill.

But whole egg white omelet gosh that dont sound like very much at all.  For breakfast I can fix two eggs and two turkey sausage patties and that is one cup of food so that is why Im asking .

Two weeks that sounds awful early to me to be honest Bandme.  At two weeks you could still be a little swollen from the injection .  We are not allowed to get another fill for exactly 4-6 weeks no ifs ands or buts.  He is very very strict about that.

I didn't even know you could. I think you'd be fine with 4 weeks, but not after 1 week. My doctor's office wants me to wait at least 2 weeks before asking for a refill. I had my first fill on Mar 3. I don't get my 2nd one till April 14 - 6 weeks away.  I had to wait 6 for my 1st fill.  As much as I want to get onto losing weight, I know my doctor wants me to heal properly and not pu****  I just have to be patient.  This is my 2nd surgery - revision surgery, so I know how precious it is to take your time and be patient.

Yes, it does take a week or two before you feel a fill.  I'm starting to feel it this week - 2 weeks out.

Something that helps keep my sanity is eating really dense proteins.  In the stage that we are in, we can eat the harder to eat foods like chicken and beef (with caution of course).  We aren't restricted, so the denser and drier the meat, the faster I feel full and stay full. Hope that makes sense.

What revision did you have or was it just a band replacement?  I'm asking because I had a revision too, a band-over-bypass. :)

For what it's worth, I'm nearly always less tight directly after a fill and then it kicks in 10-14 days later. Give it some time. My experience has been that less aggressive with the fills is better. I've only had  4 in the course of a year, other than the initial one 6 weeks after surgery.  I eventually made it up to 5.25 CCs in my 10 cc band and it is definitely in the green zone for me. I "can" eat a lot more than I do but if I follow the rules and make sure to not eat when I'm not actually hungry, I do fine.

So, try not to be in a rush to get filled because you'll also do better if you go slowly and take time to adjust your mind and eating habits over time instead of jacking the tightness up suddenly.

Eat denser protein to fill you up more. So you ate a whole egg white omelet. I bet if you folded it up and stuck it in a one cup bowl it was just one cup. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

And I agree about fills not kicking in right away. There are some times that I didn't feel a fill until a week or sometimes 2 later. Just be careful.

And restriction is not that you shouldn't be able to eat that amount. Restriction is whether one cup of food keeps you satisfied for 3-5 hours between meals. That should be how you gauge if you need another fill.

My doc will give me a fill a week after a previous one if I need it - I never have done but he made the offer!

But my fills always take effect the moment I get them! I stick to thick liquids for the rest of the day and then go back to regular foods the next day and whatever restriction there is then is what stays with me.

But it seems to me that my doc is unusual in how he judges fills - not unique, others do have the same experience but not most. He made sure that I had a good level of restriction from the very first fill.  That horrifies some people but he is a very experienced bariatric surgeon and has been looking after me for 5 years!

Yes ma'am!  My surgeon is particularly aggressive with fills and allowed me to go as little as 2 weeks apart too.  To be honest, I was THRILLED he was like that because I am one impatient person.  LOL  He didn't do large fills (very gradual) but he did them often until I was at my sweet spot - and I have been there for 18 months.  I think you'll be fine.  If not, you can go get a slight unfill. Personally, I loved going every 2 weeks.  It was enough time (for me anyway) for the fill to "settle in" and know whether I needed more or not by then.  Waiting 2 more weeks would have been pointless for me the way things were going so well.  Good luck and keep us posted!
