Hi all,
so I had my surgery last week Monday (7th March). So far, so good, The day of my surgery I was 112.2 kg, 3 days later on Thursday last week I was 109.0. Yay! That was great, I was happy (even though in pain). My after OP diet is:
1week liquid
1 week mushy
2 weeks soft food

So I am on mushy now. Unfortunately, my last few days on liquids as well as now I put on slowly, but steadily weight! So today I was 109.6. I know, I know "only" 600gramm, don't ask me what I was expecting, but I am so strict with my diet adn I am very careful and I eat so little and not even carbs (basically I had scrambled egg and spinach), I do not understand why my body puts on weight??? It is very frustrating. On top of that, I was lurking around here and read some horrific stories about eroded bands, slipped bands, inflammed ports, too much acid, heart burn etc etc, and sorry to say, but I am already worried I have made a massive mistake. My body was overweight, still is, yes, but technically I was all healthy? Please, does anybody have words of encouragement? I know what you are all thinking, what a wuzz, judging already after not even two week post op, but I am sitting here crying about things I cannot change now anyway :((

P.S.: How can I get one of those weight tickers that many have in their signature?

 Hello,

Sorry no one has responded to your post yet.   I am not a lapband patient but I do know that most surgeon's don't immediately fill your lapband till you are 4 to 6 weeks post op due to the swelling.   You have just having "buyers remorse".    Most WLS patients no matter which surgery they choose go through that.    Also there are problems that can arise with any WLS not just lapband.    Think about the reason's why you personally choose the band over the other surgeries.    It will be OK.   If you are female.....the added weight is probably water weight.    I wouldn't be too concerned at the stage in the game.    If you have concerns....call your surgeon.    I take it also that you are not in the United States since your weight is in kg.    See if you can find a support group where you live and try to attend one on a regular basis.    That way you can get the support that you seek.   Good luck to you on your lapband.   I know many many very successful people with that band that have had no problems at all.    As for the health tracker.....go to your account.......click on heath tracker....then sharing.   Good luck and have a blessed day !!!

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

A little weight gain is normal when you first switch to food from liquids.  Depending on your pre-op diet some of us have been on liquids for 3-4 weeks by the time mushies come along.  It's just your body's way of storing calories because it hasn't had many calories lately.  It will level off and you will start losing again.  A good way to offset the weight gain is light exercising.  Are you walking?  Take a few more walks every day that will help burn off the extra calories you are eating.

thank you :) I am female, yes, and I am in UK (London). I think on top of all is this traumatic experience I had from the hospital...I have been in hospitals in Germany, but this one here was just horrible! Even though I did not feel well the next day and I have told the staff that I will be picked up at 3pm, I had been kicked out at 11am, because a new patient needed my bed, and I went to the waiting room where I slept! There were so many things that I will actually complaint about this hospital but you know, this is how my journey started and I guess this is why it is so easy to discourage me..But your reply has been great and it's good to know that others go through this stage as well, thank you!
also walk, but this is as much excercise as I do at the moment, as the cuts are healing at the moment and the big cut does not heal that well..It was bleeding quite a while aftere surgery (I think for another 3 days) and I have the feeling if I stretch it opens again..when I removed the plasters skin came off with it as well- I don't want to get in too much detail, it's not that pretty :(

I take it when you are talking about removing the plasters that is bandages.    I bet you are allergic to the tape.  I know I am and when regular bandages it placed on my skin it too comes off.    Next time you have to be bandaged ask them to  use paper tape.    As for the places where they are at.....use some antibiotic cream on it.    That should help but it will take a while for it to heal.   Sorry you are having a hard time.     But don't get discouraged with the surgery.    I am sure you will do great.    There are some wonderful, helpful people here on OH always willing to help you out no matter there you are in the world.    Good luck and please keep up your spirits !!!

Welcome!! There isn't much more I can say than they have said.  Just wanted you to know your thought of as you begin your journey.

This tends to happen ;) You'll lose weight like crazy on the liquids because you pee it all out. When you add any sort of solids back in, the actual weight of that food stays around longer. Don't worry! Just stick to your doctor's plan and you'll be fine.

The tickers are under "my account" and then I think "health tracker"

There are more happy bandsters than there are unhappy ones!

Do you want me to let you know when we Brits have our next London get together? Probably in April sometime. If so, PM me with your e mail address.

if you have any specifically UK Qs, just PM me.

The following explanation is courtesy of Diana Cox.

Our bodies use glycogen for short term energy storage. Glycogen is not very soluble, but it is stored in our muscles for quick energy -- one pound of glycogen requires 4 lbs of water to keep it soluble, and the average glycogen storage capacity is about 2 lbs. So, when you are not getting in enough food, your body turns first to stored glycogen, which is easy to break down for energy. And when you use up 2 lbs of glycogen, you also lose 8 lbs of water that was used to store it -- voila -- the "easy" 10 lbs that most people lose in the first week of a diet.

As you stay in caloric deficit, however, your body starts to realize that this is not a short term problem. You start mobilizing fat from your adipose tissue and burning fat for energy. But your body also realizes that fat can't be used for short bursts of energy -- like, to outrun a sabertooth tiger. So, it starts converting some of the fat into glycogen, and rebuilding the glycogen stores. And as it puts back the 2 lbs of glycogen into the muscle, 8 lbs of water has to be stored with it to keep it soluble. So, even though you might still be LOSING energy content to your body, your weight will not go down or you might even GAIN for a while as you retain water to dissolve the glycogen that is being reformed and stored.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

You have a few more weeks of healing ahead of you and that should be your focus for now...don't worry so much about the weight loss...2-4 kilos per month (1-2 lb per week) is about average. Weigh once per week at the same time with the same clothing on so that you can see exactly how much you have lost. Also, you still have some swelling from surgery and as that dissipates, you will lose that weight as well.

Many of the posts you see about complications are for minor issues and a few are regarding possibly more serious complications. There are some posters who will try to tell you every band is a bad band...you made a choice and now you need to learn how to utilize your new tool to your best advantage and turn a deaf ear to the critics, so they don't get you down.

Hang in there! You'll do fine!

edited to add:

for the ticker, go to Tools on the blue header above your post and scroll down to tickers and widgets...pretty self-explanatory after that.
