19 days po and pain last night
As of yesterday I was allowed "soft" foods. So for dinner I had about 5 steamed shrimp. I have not had a fill yet. I didn't have any trouble while eating it and I thought I was chewing it up pretty well, but after dinner I had notcible pain on my left side. It made me scared that I had done something wrong. Does shrimp not count as "soft?" SHould I have not been eating it?
shrimp is really not considerd a soft food or at least in my opinion its not . Soft foods is something you dont have to chew and chew on and shrimp is something you have to chew alot .
Soft foods are eggs, mashed tators, , refried beans things like that.
Shrimp was a no no for me till I was back to reg foods .
When I was on soft I was not allowed no meats like shrimp , chicken, red meat .you still dont want to overwork your stomach muscles when you eat :o)
Every doc is different though what my doc said is a no no for me might not be a no no for you :o)

no you will be fine :o) I ate chicken early one time and did the same thing :o)
If you like tuna you can eat that with some mayo but make sure its moistened really well with the mayo dont let it be to dry , also egg salad you can eat that .
I was allowed to eat anything I wanted in the soft stage as long as it didnt require alot of chewing basically to me the mushy stage and the soft food stage is the same thing so whatever I ate on the mushy stage I ate during the soft food stage lol.
Applesauce you can eat that , cream of wheat , oatmeal is another good soft food and that will keep you full .
My personal favorite was refried beans mixed with salsa melted cheese on top and sour cream I lived on that stuff for them two weeks lol.

Do you have the book, "Weight Loss Surgery For Dummies"? If not, I would pick it up. I got mine at amazon.com. According to the book, soft foods include:
Finely ground tuna
Chicken or egg salad with low-fat mayo (no celery or onions)
Shrimp
Scallops
White Fish (no need to puree or chop up)
I would also read through the literature you were given by your surgeon and nutritionist. It may be in there and you missed it.
As of this Friday, I'm on soft foods as well, and shrimp, lobster & crab are all on my doctor's list. Believe it or not, I'm looking forward to having a salad - lol.
Good luck!

To help you know what soft was, I used this rule when I was on soft...with the exception of eggs, if you can put your finger in it and it regain it shape when your finger is removed...it is soft...ie, refried beans. applesauce, potatoe.
More likely you have not done any harm...it is a good thing that you did not get stuck.
Go forth and sin no more, smile.
