Still not ready to go back to work

I am 19 days post op(had surgery on Feb 23) and I am not progressing as quickly as I assumed I would be.  I still have a little pain in the port area but my main issue is I'm just terribly week.  I saw the surgeon last Monday and he said it was normal and gave me a B12 shot and said for me to go ahead and start on mushies and that should correct the problem.  Well it hasn't.  I'm tired all the time and just don't seem to have any energy.  When I try to push myself I break out into a sweat and start shaking.  I'm trying to get in all  my protein shakes (some days I feel like I'm going to puke if I drink it but I do it anyway ) and I take my vitamins.  Has anyone else experienced this?

I felt the same way.  I was out for 6 weeks and I really needed the entire time.  When I went back to work someone called health and safety and thought they should check on me because they thought I looked too sick to work.  I actually wasn't feeling sick, just tired.  I think it is really easy to underestimate how much of an impact that surgery has on you.  I feel great now, but it took awhile to build up my stamina.  Take it slow and listen to your body.

I'm 19 days post op too!!!  We will have the samd Bandiversary!  how cool.  I'm not having any pain, but I did experience the weakness that you describe mainly during my first week. My PA stressed to me very sternly that meeting my protein/fluid goal was imperative to the healing process.  60-80 grams of protein per day and at least 64 oz. of fluids was the ultimate goal and it took me 5-6 days to actually get it all in.  Try keeping a log of your protein/fluid intake and you may be surprised that maybe your not getting what you think you are.  It's very easy to lose track if you dont journal it.  My program required 2 oz. of protein at the top of each hour (while you are awake of course) and then at least 2 oz. of clear fluid ea. 15 minutes thereafter, then again, 2 oz. at the top of the next hour and so on and so on.  Meeting the r/f goal got easier as time went on.  Walking at least 20 minutes helped me with the shaking also.  Everyone progresses at different rates.  Follow your doctors orders and you will succeed.  Have you tried medical grade protein powder shakes?  My fav is Unjury Choc Classic.  YOu can order it online in packets to try before getting the big canister.  I even blended in a T of natural peanut butter and "imagined" it was a Resse cup shake.  It was delicious, no kidding.  Go to unjury.com to order, the vanilla is good in decaf coffee too.  Good luck.

Make sure you are drinking enough water. Protein shakes can dehydrate you. For each ounce of protein shake, you should have equal ounces of water.
