I havent been approved , im currently in the process of getting all the approvals, so i know this is something my dr and the nutritionist will discuss with me in the future, but im wondering .....What do you eat Post Surgery.

Ok. once you get past the liquid/mush phase.

Its is all about counting calories? carbs?

Just trying to get some ideas.

Also, im trying  to stick to a low carb, high protein diet for right now, Im running out of ideas. :(

I was banded on January 14, 2011.  I've had 2 fills.  I can eat a little of almost anything, except chicken is very tough for me, unless it's really juicy.  Most say a cup of food. 1/2 protein, 1/4 vegies, and 1/4 carbs.  I like an egg for breakfast with turkey sausage.  I'll make tuna salad, or refried beans, 15 bean soup, baked talipia, etc for lunch and dinner.  Some have problems with bread or pasta.  I don't so I just chew, chew, chew, and eat about what I want, but only a cup.  I have had to really work on the cup part, till I got my last fill.  Now, that's not so hard.  Good Luck!

great, thanks.

I found a few sites for recipes, so hopefully that will help.

If you dont mind me asking? do you ever feel hungry?
I know you said you have had 2 fills, did you get the fills becaue of hunger issues?

I can eat anything I want I dont have any problems with any foods .  I haven't given up any of my foods either just cause I had this surgery . I do everything in moderation now .

I eat around 800-1200 calories a day

no more then 65 carbs per day according to doc but usually around 50 or so

50 grams of fat per day

and protein anywhere from 70-100 grams per day it depends on my day .

I live by this rule and it was told to me by a vet on here Moderation not Deprivation .

I didn't get the band to tell me I cant eat that or this and to be honest I will never keep that kind of restriction for that to happen.  :o)

I have never had a fill my band is empty and if I eat at least 35 grams of protein per meal I can go as long as 3  to 5 hrs at a time without being physically  hungery

You can click on the right of this page, in blue, under About Lap-Band System, then Post surgery diet, it has good ideas. There is also a post on here almost every day, where people have posted what they ate, another place for good ideas. My Dr has us eat 4 oz, by weight of our food 3 x a day, starting with dense protein, then veggie or fruit. Some eat 1/2 cup, some 1 cup, depends on the Dr. Basically the band will make you full on less, you have to choose the right food and try  and not listen to the "head hunger" that will come occasionally. And remember you probably will not have restriction until you have a few fills under your belt, so you may be more hungry than you allowed to eat. Good luck.

I can tell you what I certainly should be doing or I can tell you what I do.

I can eat just about anything. I try to avoid mass amounts of bread products. Like this weekend, I had a monster sausage calzone with all the trimmings in it. The thing is I ate only the insides of it. I didn't eat the bread.  I can do pizza if it's thin crust otherwise I have trouble with thicker crusts.

This weekend I also had....
BFast: 1/4 of a chicken fried steak. a few roasted taters and an over easy egg.
Lunch: Asian chicken salad
Dinner: 1/3 of a Bacon Cheese burger,  then the meat and veg off the rest.
dessert.... oh yes! I was on vacation. I had a $3.00 pistachio/raspberry thing the size of a match box. Delish!
BFast:  Potato skillet with tons of veg
Lunch: Bowl of chili with all the trim minus the sour cream. ick!
Dinner: Apple and cinnamon oatmeal, a few slices of Asiago, canadian bacon and some crackers. ?? Don't judge me.

I can and do eat all foods. While i was losing, I made healthy food choices about 80% of the time.

We all need to do this in the way which suits us but for me that way was by not counting or measuring foods to avoid becoming obsessive. But when i did check it out, i ate about 1200 cals a day and about 60-80- gm protein.

Your medical professionals will give you guidelines an these must be followed to the letter in the immediate post-op stage but then, once you have got used to your band, you can start to learn what is going to be something that you can live with.

Many days there is a regular thread called something like " what are you eating today" - take a look at that..
